First Impression Friday #16

Happy Friday! Well, for those of you who have weekends off it’s a happy Friday lol! I’ve got a full weekend of work chaos ahead of me, but I have books to soothe the pain 🙂 I’ve read some EPIC books over the last few weeks (and holy hell they were all super LONG!) and I can’t wait to talk about them again here. If you haven’t seen this meme, it was created by the brilliant Joe at JW Martin – Storeys of Stories (if you aren’t following him yet then head on over!) where you talk about your current read and what you first thought of it. I only do this on a bi-weekly basis and like to compare my first impressions with how I rated it in the end. So here’s my first impressions of the books I read over the last 2 weeks:

The well of ascension

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I didn’t wait too long after reading the first book to jump into its sequel, but I was still happy to be back in this world and with the characters. After the way that book one ended, I was anticipating seeing how things went “after”. Information was quickly given to the reader and caught me up on what had been happening and the direction the story was going. I actually got into this one quicker than I did in book one so that’s why I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – ….. very close! I ended up rating this one 4 stars. It had a lot of 5 star qualities to it, but it seemed to lag a little in the middle. The pace seemed to slow to a crawl in places and I wondered why I was reading so much detail and if it was really necessary. It was necessary in the end, but I got a little bored throughout. I was, however, happy that we were finally given answers to some of the questions in book one, and the ending was one of the best fantasy endings i’ve ever read! For my full review, click HERE

Kingdom of ash

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but the first few chapters of this book didn’t have me convinced. I was a little worried that it would be just blah and didn’t throw me into the chaos and directions of action and answers. I think I was apprehensive because I wasn’t 100% impressed with the finale of the ACOTAR series. I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – Now THAT was a finale! Holy hell this book was epic and I loved every minute of it!! This was an easy 5 star read and I was so invested in everything that happened. The action, the characters….. everything was so well written! My heart still hurts! For my full review, click HERE

The shadow of the wind

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I went into this book not knowing a single thing about it. The first chapter was so great and made me want to know more. It set the tone for the entire book letting us know and feel the mystery that we were about to unfold. And the atmosphere was also amazing. I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I couldn’t wait to find out! I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – OMG this book was just SOOOO good! I just finished it yesterday and I’m still reeling over the events, characters, and connections. I can’t even explain how much this book sucked in my soul and emotions. I think that I’m a little happy that I went into it not knowing anything because every tiny detail was a surprise. I won’t say much here now, but I will have the full review posted Monday 🙂 This was a fantastic 5 star book for me!

The last 2 weeks were FULL of amazing reads! 2 books were 5 stars and 1 was 4 stars. These books were just soooooo good!!! I’m also totally proud of myself for finishing over 2,000 pages! Go me lol!

Until next time, happy reading!

You read some AMAZING books!! While it may be the end of the week for me, it actually snowed over 10cm last night, so the drive to school was not so pleasant this morning. I’m excited to snuggle up with a great book this snowy weekend!

    1. Yuck! It snowed here too but not that much. It’s really slushy so not too slippery. Enjoy your book filled weekend!

I’m about 200 pages into Kingdom of Ash, and I 100% agree with you about the beginning. I was like uhhhh…..ummm, what is this? I was also disappointed in A Court of Wings and Ruin, but I’m so happy/relieved to hear that KoA gets good. I think I’m starting to get to that point because NOW I can’t seem to put it down.

  6. OMG you killed it!! Over 2000 pages!! I was also moderately apprehensive going into KoA because I also didn’t love the ending to ACOWAR, but Maas definitely did better service to Erilea than Prythian!!
