Top 5 Magical Books!

“Swish and Flick!” Sorry, I couldn’t help it – this post begged to be started with a quote from Harry Potter! I don’t care how old you are, there’s always room for a little magic in your life. Some books with magic are whimsical and nostalgic. Some are full of fantasy and adventure. And some are full of power and balances between good and evil. I hope to cover all of those bases today!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in October – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

harry-potter

HARRY POTTER by J.K. Rowling

I had to start with the obvious. This was a series that I almost refused to read. I think that I was in my late teens when this series blew up and everyone was talking about it. At that point, all I knew was that it was a middle grade series where the kids were wizards. I had one word for it……. LAME! I was too cool for it lol! HA!! Little did I know that you can never be too old and this is the best series I’ve ever read! I may be “slightly” obsessed! The magic in these books is what you would call classic. Wands, spells, and all that jazz. But it’s still amazing!

Mistborn

MISTBORN by Brandon Sanderson

This is a book that I read for the first time a few weeks ago, and it’s hands down the most unique magic system I’ve ever read! I felt like a was a sponge just waiting to suck in as much information as I could. The system revolved around metals, where a person would ingest it, and each metal had different uses and abilities. The way that it was written also made it so easy to understand and put into practise.

Children of blood and bone

CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi Adeyemi

This one felt like a case of mysterious magic. It was lost to the people and suddenly our main character finds their magic and needs to learn how to wield it. Things would have been different had she had someone to teach her, but we the reader get the chance to learn along with her and I love experiences like that!

the-name-of-the-wind

THE NAME OF THE WIND by Patrick Rothfuss

If I was to choose some words to describe the magic in this book, it would be powerful, and sneaky! I know those words have a lot to do with the characters personalities, but it shows just how versatile the magic is in this book. We are also in a magic school setting (which is something I live and breathe for!) so we learn about magic in a classroom setting as well as practical. I don’t think that we really understand just how powerful the magic in this world is just yet! Book 3 now please???? WHEN??

the-night-circus

THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern

The magic in this book is what I meant above when I said whimsical! Everything about this book reminded me of sparkly magic dust. Not that there was actually magic dust lol, but that’s how I felt about the magic and the book as a whole. The magic was used as a game, and also showed the struggle between good and bad. The atmosphere only heightened the magic, making this something I will never forget!

  8. Great list! I couldnt decide how to pick my “magic” books so went with books that had the word “Magic” right in the title 😀 If I hadnt done that, there’s a good chance Name of the Wind and/or Night Circus would have made my list as well.
