And just like that, the first ever Off The Grid Readathon is over! Thanks to all who participated this weekend. I hope that you were able to separate yourselves from social media and get some reading in! Maybe it will even push you to want to do it more often. I know that’s what happened with me 🙂 When I realized that Justine and I scheduled this readathon on a weekend that I was travelling 3 hours away from home, I was worried that I wouldn’t get much reading in at all. Luckily I managed to read 2 books over the weekend!! I was able to read before we left, then while driving and staying in the hotel. Add those to the one book that I read at the beginning of the week, and my grand total is 3 books this week! I couldn’t be more proud! Here’s what I read:
BOOKS I’VE FINISHED THIS WEEK:
MISTBORN: THE FINAL EMPIRE by Brandon Sanderson <—- (Click for full review) 5 stars
YES! I can finally add Mistborn to my “I read it and I freaking loved it” shelf! God this book was so good! The magic system, the characters, the politics, and the action were all just so incredible! I’m happy to say that I now understand why fantasy lovers say this is a “must read” series and can’t wait to start book 2 hopefully soon!
A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS by Paul Tremblay – 5 stars
This was a reread and dear lord that ending STILL catches me off guard! I wanted to reread it and see if I could find any hints to the ending. I was expecting that there would have been quite a few! But honestly, there wasn’t much! The book as a whole was a little less creepy the second time around, but still pretty amazing!
SCREAM ALL NIGHT by Derek Milman – 3.5 stars
I don’t have a review for this one up yet – I will be posting it Wednesday. And I’m going to admit that I’m happy I have a few days to write my review……. i’ll need those days to figure out how to word it! I finished the book, closed the cover, and thought to myself “What the hell did I just read?” I meant it in a good way, but not so good way at the same time. It was depressing, weird, and over the top – and it was also entertaining as hell! The plot was a little darker and more emotional than I thought it would be. But I don’t mean dark as in horror. It was about child abuse and how the main character grew up and dealt with his family and his future. But then there was a whole lot of horror B side movies that have a massive cult following and I absolutely loved that aspect! Like I said, full thoughts coming Wednesday 🙂
BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:
No, I’m not reading both at once – I just haven’t decided which one to pick up yet. Both seem interesting! Haunted seems like a creepy book that will mess with my mind. And I Darken seems to be about a bad ass female in a Dracula retelling….. I don’t know how i’m going to decide!
OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:
TOP 5 TUESDAY:
This week was part 2 in the “tropes” series and we finally got to talk about the Tropes we’ve had enough of! I had a busy day that Tuesday so I wasn’t able to comment on your posts, but I did see them, and yelled at my computer “YES!” so many times! Your lists were fantastic!! This week we will be talking about the Top 5 books that didn’t live up to the hype. I can’t wait to see what makes your lists! Controversial opinions time lol!
That was my week basically. Between daily life, anxiety, and a readathon, I’ve just had time for reading! Nothing else really happened and I was thankful for the down time! Hope you all had an amazing week and have an even better week ahead!
Until next time, happy reading!
