Why does it feel so long since I’ve done this post? I’ve read 3 books since my last post, but one of those was a reread, so I won’t include my thoughts on that. I’m so close to finishing another, but won’t finish until tonight. Now, I’ve had a few people say that they love this idea and are looking for things to post on Fridays. The creator of this meme (Joe from JW Martin – Storeys of Stories) welcomes participants! Please be sure to link him in your post so he gets notified that you participated.
The Rules (with my own tweak)
- I read the first 1-2 chapters (depending on chapter length) and give you my thoughts at that point – aka, my “first impression”.
- I then tell you what I think I will rate that book.
- After finishing, I will compare my actual rating to what I thought I would rate it, and also let you know what I thought of it in the end 🙂
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Hmmmm. This was a tough one. I’m going to be brutally honest here and admit that the first chapter had me bored to tears. There wasn’t a whole lot happening, it gave little to no information about the past or future, and it all felt so familiar. After the second chapter I actually considered DNF’ing it, but I decided to continue on audiobook and hope for the best. I guessed that I would rate this one 2.5 stars…..
HOW I RATED IT – Luckily, my opinion of this one changed for the better! I still wasn’t my favourite fantasy ever written, but there were some improvements made after the first few chapters. The plot finally moved forward, and the main character Kelsea turned into a total bad ass! I ended up rating this one 3.75 stars
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – This was one of those books that you immediately know you’re going to love. I think I read a total of 5 pages of this book and I was totally hooked! I loved the writing, the main character was so interesting, and I couldn’t wait to see how it went from that to what the synopsis laid out for me. I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..
HOW I RATED IT – I was right! This book turned into a total obsession that I just couldn’t put down! The writing was absolutely stunning, the world was enchanting, and the plot was familiar yet unique at the same time. I turned the last page and haven’t stopped thinking about it! I need the sequel NOW!!!
Those are the two new books I’ve read over the last two weeks. I hope to have even more to talk about in the coming weeks.
Until next time, happy reading!
I’ve read a couple of enthusiastic reviews about CITY OF BRASS, and so want to read this one, it sounds like just my kind of fantasy. I’ve got it on my list! 😀

Wow. I’ve heard mostly good things about City of Brass, but with that kind of glow I just might have to move it up on my TBR.

I love watching first impression videos on youtube, but it’s great reading about them too. I think most people are really good at guessing whether they’ll like a book or not by the first few pages, but it’s always great to be pleasantly surprised.

I really like these first impression Fridays, it’s so cool seeing how your rating can change from the beginning of a book to the end.

I love comparing how I felt in the beginning to how I felt in the end. Sometimes you just know you’re going to love it while other times it takes a while 🙂
