Off The Grid Readathon!

Hello everyone! If you’ve been following me for the last few weeks, you will know that I’ve been insanely busy. Kids are finishing their second week of school, work has been ridiculous with 14+ hour days, and everything else in between. Because of this, my anxiety has been on high alert and i’m extremely overwhelmed. I’ve decided that I need a break. I need to take a couple days to step back, breathe, relax, and recharge. SO – I’ve decided that it’s time for an impromptu readathon!

I introduce: The Off The Grid Readathon! The whole point of this is to stay off my phone lol. Stay away from the distractions of social media, the pressure of the blog, and anything else that keeps me away from reading. I want to be able to stay completely focused on my book and just lose myself in the world and the characters. I know this happens to us all – we sit down with a book, notice we have a social media notification, and 30 minutes later we realize we just wasted a shit ton of time falling down the rabbit hole.

Effective immediately I AM OFF THE GRID!!! I will not be responding to blog comments, I won’t open social media. I will just read!!! And I can’t freaking wait! I will have my weekly wrap up scheduled for Sunday, but won’t officially return until Monday morning πŸ™‚

off the grid tbr 1

This isn’t going to be easy. It’s safe to say that it’s become habit for us all to grab our phones when we have a spare minute. I hope to retrain myself. The goal for this weekend is to finish THE CITY OF BRASS by S.A. Chakraborty (which I am freaking loving!!!), do a rereadofΒ STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor, then immediately get to the sequel MUSE OF NIGHTMARES. It’s been so long since I’ve read Strange the Dreamer and I forget a lot of the details. All 3 of these books are over 500 pages so……. not sure if I will finish them all lol. If things go well, I might just make this a monthly thing!

I’m off to read now – hope you have an amazing weekend filled with lots of adventures!

Until next time, happy reading!

I don’t blog on weekends, so don’t feel stressed about taking a couple of days off for yourself. We all need some down time away from social media and blogging. Enjoy!

  5. Make this a reagual readathon, I may do this myself because I have a lot of books that I want to get read this weekend and one book is 1001 pages and the other is over 500+ pages, but good luck…

    1. Yikes!!! Books over 500 pages are always intimidating but those books over 1000 are even more scary! I plan to do this readathon once a month or every other month. Not sure yet!

Omg omg this is the best idea ever! I’ve been struggling with this do much lately – I’m so distracted by everything! Count me in!

I’m hell bent on finishing Daughter of the Pirate King tonight because I’ve been working on it for weeks now – this is getting ridiculous. This is the perfect opportunity! Now I need to get off my phone…

    1. It was harder than I thought it would be. I checked my phone but I was very aware every time I touched it. This is going to take some practice! I think I need to do this more often. I finished 2 books and started the third so it was a success!

  10. This is a really cool idea for a readathon! Often seeing other people’s progress will make us doubt our own reading pace, and ultimately be detrimental to our experience!

    1. Yes! Taking a step away from everything made me read faster actually. There was no distraction, no pressure – just reading!

  11. Good luck with this! I know what you mean, staying off my phone for more than a few minutes has become almost unbearable and I am aware of the effects… I try to use it only for reading or talking to friends but it still ends up consuming so much time. Especially Twitter ugh

    1. Oh god Twitter has consumed so much of my time lately! I go on there with the intent to post something. Then an hour later I realized I wasted an hour and totally forgot what I was going to post! πŸ˜‚

  13. I love this!

As usual, I’m not active on my blog during weekends. That’s me-time / boyfriend-time / household-time / reading time / friends-time.. Like.. simply “not on the internet-time”, haha.
I do have periods where I feel like being off the grid during the week as well and then I do just that. I even downloaded an app a year back to block my entire phone for a certain amount of time. I can’t even unlock the thing when it’s on. [I did make sure certain people can always reach me, even when the app’s on though.] I love the thing because you know it’s not worth even trying to unlock your phone, so you focus on other things instead.

Hope you enjoyed / are enjoying your time off the grid!

    1. Omg that app sounds amazing!!! I’ll be looking into this for sure! Thanks for mentioning it! It was so nice to step away from it all and just β€œbe”. No pressure, no distractions, just going with the flow. I’m doing this more often. Especially on weekends!

      1. You’re welcome! They’re multiple apps like that; you just have to find the one that works best for you. πŸ˜€
You should. It’s a brilliant way to charge your mental battery and works wonders if you make a habit out of it too!
