TBR Unhaul Wrap up #4

Another month down, and another success! I’m pretty sure that I say this every month, but this is the best thing I could have ever done. I’m knocking down my TBR (well I would be if I would stop buying books! lol) and I’m finding what I’m interested in and what no longer holds my attention. It’s also helping me get over my fear of DNF’ing books (DNF = did not finish). For SO LONG I would force myself to finish something. I would always regret it in the end. I’ve since gotten over my fears and learned that I don’t NEED to finish a book! If it’s not working for me, then there’s no point in wasting time reading it. It’s ok to not be the perfect audience for a book! It doesn’t mean that the book is bad, it just means that it wasn’t meant for me. Here’s how the unhaul went this month:

A thousand pieces of you

First was my sons pick – A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. I was really excited when he picked it. I had read the first chapter and it sucked me right in, but I put it aside for something else. When I finally got around to reading this – I was OBSESSED!!! So obsessed that I ended up reading all 3 books in the trilogy this month!! I count this one as more than a success.

Burial Rites

Next was my TBR jar pick and…… well, let’s just say that it wasn’t nearly as successful as the first one. In fact, I was really disappointed in this one. So many reviews were positive and talked about the dark atmosphere. I didn’t feel the same, no matter how much I wanted to. The plot moved so slowly I was bored almost the entire time. The characters were one dimensional and everything was told in a very matter of fact way. I didn’t even love the atmosphere. I ended up skimming through most of it because I just couldn’t be bothered to hang on every word. I was also crossing my fingers that it would pick up a bit…… it didn’t. Oh well, at least I read it and it’s no longer on my TBR!

Books Read – 6

Books Unhauled – 2

Not bad! I’m actually proud of how this is going. I’m also considering going through my shelves and unhauling some more just because I dread the titles being pulled from the TBR jar. We will see what happens.

Until next time, happy reading!

I just caught up on the last few posts of your challenge and it’s a great idea! I kind of do something similar — I try to read in a rotation: new book, library book, book I already own, book on Kindle. It’s not going particularly well, though… maybe I’ll force myself to do a challenge like this to knock the numbers down!

    1. That’s a good idea! If you read books in different forms then it would help keep things in check. Knocking numbers down feels so satisfying!

Yeah… it’s too bad I add more to my TBR every month than I actually read off of it! 🤣

    1. Apparently! He picked Queen of the tearling for September – I hope I’m as lucky!

  4. I love what you said about DNFing. I think a lot of times, the book blogging community as a whole equates a DNFed book to a bad book. But like you said, I think it more often just means that book wasn’t for a specific reader. Some books work for some people. Others don’t. Good luck with your reading in the future!

    1. There’s definitely a stigma with DNF’ing books. And I firmly believe that there are no bad books!! There are just different books for different tastes. For example – I HATED Gone Girl. With a passion! But others love it. It’s not that I think it’s bad. I see why people love it. But it’s just not the book for me
