August 2018 Book Haul

I was doing great…… that is until I stepped foot into Chapters Indigo in Windsor….. and then everything went to hell lol!! I’m blaming this all on the fact that I don’t have a book store in my town so, whenever I get the chance to go into a massive book store, I go a little crazy being surrounded by so much wonderfulness. Luckily, almost everything that I bought was either under 10$ or it was on sale so…… I’m justifying things here! Here are the books that made their way on my shelves this month:

Muse of nightmares

The only ARC that I got this month was Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor (Thanks so much Hachette Canada!). Strange the Dreamer was a book that I attempted to start twice before finally going through with it. It was so hard to get into – and then I fell madly in love! I’ve been anticipating that glorious writing, this world and these characters again!!

I have been so excited to read Scream All Night by Derek Milman for MONTHS! I first heard about it on Twitter and it was one of those books that has every trigger word that makes you interested and you feel the strong NEED to read it right now!! It explains itself as being darkly hilarious so I’m not really sure if I should go into it taking it seriously. The synopsis reminds me a lot of Grady Hendrix who wrote My Best Friends Exorcism…. if it’s anything like that I will be in love!

Then, as per the glowing review by Joe at Storeys of Stories, I decided to finally pick up To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. I remember being interested in this when it first came out but kind of assumed it would just be ok. But when Joe mentioned that it was far from ok and was actually amazing…… i’m convinced!

The first one here – I’m not sure about. I mean, I love Catwoman, but I’ve never really read a comic type book in novel form. But, in reality – I HAD to! It’s Sarah J Maas! That’s all I really need to say lol

Then I picked up City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. This one had gotten so much hype around the time it was released. I don’t even know what it’s about! All I know is that everyone that read it said that it lived up to that hype. And it’s a long delicious fantasy…. so I’m all in!

The next two books I picked up were the first two books in the Iron Druid Chronicles. Hounded and Hexed by Kevin Hearne. These books came recommended to me by Zoe from the YouTube channel YerABookNerdZoe. She mentioned a hot druid guy, tattoos, fantasy, gods, and more – basically it’s all the buzz words I needed to hear to know that it’s my type of series! I was waiting for my family to meet me for supper so I sat in Starbucks and read some of the first book and OMG it’s AMAZING!!! She was right! Hot Irish guy who’s a complete smart ass, gods (Morrigan!), and fae. I read the first 4 chapters and I’m obsessed!!! I can’t wait to finish the two books I’m currently reading so I can get back to this ASAP!!!

Those are the 7 books I hauled this month. I feel a little guilty binging so much this month. My wallet was on the verge of a mental breakdown after getting all my kids back to school stuff and then I spent money on books. Not helpful. But in the end – I regret nothing! What books did you haul this month?

Until next time, happy reading!

  5. I know they are all different authors, but thus far, the DC Icons series has truly blown me away! It really made these comic/super hero stories non-super hero-y. I highly recommend reading Wonder Woman in the very least. I have Catwoman on my shelf at the moment as well. I pre-ordered it after reading Wonder Woman.

    1. Do you know if they all connect in some way? I’ve considered Wonder Woman but wasn’t sold just yet

      1. No, at least Wonder Woman and Batman didn’t connect. In the comicbook world, they are in the same universe, and that may the case later down the road? but as of right now, my understanding is that they are stand alones, but within the same series? If that makes sense? Basically, they can be read out of order for sure.
