Weekly Wrap Up – Aug 13 – 19

It feels like I say this almost every week, but this was yet another weird and busy week! It started off on Monday with a small surgical procedure which thankfully went really well and little to no pain. The recovery has also been quite easy and painless! I was even smart and took it easy for a couple days. Then things went wild – so busy yet a LOT of things got accomplished! For work we sent out a ton of packages, we finished back to school shopping for our two kids, got some major deep cleaning done, and so much more! I don’t mind being busy when things are actually getting done – accomplishing things seems to make it all worth while 🙂 I also managed to finish two books this week and get halfway through two more! So let’s get into my bookish week……

TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray <—– full review

I loooooove this series! After I finished the first book I just couldn’t wait to get to the second! I started it immediately and maybe even loved it more than the first! This one took more of a turn towards politics, action, and adventure opposed to the character development in book one. It was so fast paced and I loved every minute of it!

BURIAL RITES by Hannah Kent <—– full review

This is a case of where “it’s not you, it’s me.” This just wasn’t the type of book that I enjoy. I found it to be far too slow, emotionless, and matter of fact for my tastes. Almost all the reviews for this book have been so high, and I can see why they liked it, but it just wasn’t for me – at all.

NIGHTBLOOD by Elly Blake – I pulled a bit of an oopsie this week! I always have my ARC’s read and reviews up before the release date. But I’ve been so caught up in the Firebird trilogy that I didn’t realize that I only had a few days before this book came out! So I’m doing the unthinkable (for me) and reading two books at once. As I’m writing this I am 154 pages into Nightblood and it’s REALLY good so far! I anticipate this will be my favourite of the series!! My review will be posted Monday or Wednesday.

A MILLION WORLDS WITH YOU by Claudia Gray – I am SO close to finishing this series! I’m just over 120 pages and I’m sad this series is coming to an end. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done a full series marathon – and this was a GREAT one to marathon! I hope to finish this really soon!

Thanks to Joe for suggesting the topic this week! I had a blast writing all about the top 5 villains more interesting than the hero. And I wasn’t alone! So many villains and so many people who loved them. Next weeks topic (in honour of my communities first ever Pride Parade and installation of a new rainbow crosswalk!!!) is top 5 LGBTQ. This will mean books with LGBTQ elements or characters who define themselves as a part of the LGBTQ community. I know there are some AMAZING ones out there so I can’t wait to see what makes your list 🙂

I almost had to ask myself that question when I wrote the get to know ya book tag post. It had been SO long since I’ve done a tag and I forgot how much fun they are! It’s been almost a year since I created The Fall Book Tag – it might be time to create another! Ideas are running through my head!

So that was my week! A lot of chaos, a lot of “getting shit done like a boss”, and a few more books marked “read” on Goodreads! So, all in all, it was a great week! Hope you all had an amazing week as well!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

  1. I loved Burial Rites but I totally understand why some people wouldn’t get along with it! It is really slow and dreary.

I’ve been wanting to get into Elly Blake’s Frostblood series and A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray for years. I just never know which one to start with. Story of my life!

    1. Oh that’s a tough call!! One is fantasy and the other is sci-fi – both have a lot of intrigue! You can’t go wrong with either!
