The “get to know ya” tag!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a tag! I was tagged for this yesterday but the super sweet Jillian from Jillian The Bookish Butterfly and it was perfect timing! I also love the opportunity to mention some books that I don’t talk about often enough, and I figured that this tag would give me a chance to do that. So here we go!

FAVOURITE BOOK OF ALL TIME:

Well, ok then! We are going into this one with the most impossible question for any bookworm! I can’t possibly narrow it down, so here’s a collage of a few of my favourites!

FAVOURITE BOOK FROM FIVE YEARS AGO:

The Giver Quartet

I distinctly remember this series being a HUGE role in coming back to reading! After I had my kids I was too tired and distracted to take time for myself. But as they started getting older, I started making “me time” a priority. This series was one that I read in a few days time because I was so obsessed with it!

FAVOURITE DUOLOGY/TRILOGY/SERIES:

Once again, this is so hard! I’m in the middle of the Firebird trilogy by Claudia Gray right now and I’m absolutely obsessed with it! I also love the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Harry Potter, Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire…. so many to list!

LAST BOOK YOU READ:

Ten thousand skies above you

The last book I finished was A Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray – I am LOVING this series sooooo much! This one was maybe even better than the first but for different reasons. I plan on starting the third book ASAP!

LAST BOOK OF POETRY YOU READ:

I haven’t. I’m not a fan of poetry at all.

WHAT BOOK MOST INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?

Hmmmm this is so hard! I honestly can’t say that there is one. I remembered reading 1984 in high school and loving it while all my other friends just didn’t bother. I remember reading The Giver quartet and it pushing me to read more. I remember reading The Martian and it making me realize that I actually love science fiction. And I remember reading The Book Thief and being so overwhelmed emotionally. There are so many books that impact me in different ways. It would take me years to list them all!

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU UGLY CRY:

These two books gave a whole new meaning to ugly cry. It was more like an embarrassing, disgusting, emotional outburst. These books hit my emotions so hard that I was basically inconsolable! But I loved them so much and the experience they gave me.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU LAUGH:

These two books made me laugh so hard I was in tears! Furiously Happy was a book that I listened to in audio form and didn’t know much about it before I started. As sad as it could be at times, her humour that got her through the tough times was just hilarious! Then, At The Stroke of Midnight make me laugh because the characters were just so bold and lacked any type of verbal filter! Some of the one liners that came out of that book caught me off guard but were so funny!!

A CHARACTER YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE FOR A DAY:

Once again, I couldn’t choose just one. First I chose Feyre from the Court of Thorns and Roses series because I want to be a part of their crew! They’re so amazing and, Rhysand!! Need I say more?

Then there’s Harry Potter – just to be in the wizarding world for ONE DAY would be amazing! Casting spells, eating the food, going to classes, riding on a broom, being in the Weasley house… I would give anything!

Lastly is Invictus. They have the ability to travel back in time! I could choose to go anywhere! See the Titanic, see Vesuvius erupt, and so much more! I could go anytime and anywhere!

A BOOK SO GOOD YOU DREAMT ABOUT IT

ready-player-one

The world building in this book was so outstanding that it crept into my dreams. I dreamt a few times that I was living in a virtual reality world. There were flying cars and everything lol!

A BOOK YOU DNF’D (DID NOT FINISH)

The unexpected everything

The most recent book I gave up on was The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. Its rare for me to give up on a book. Even if I’m not enjoying it, I have to complete it because I need to know what happens! But with this one, only a few chapters in, I was bored out of my mind and hated the characters. It’s over 500 pages if I’m remembering correctly so there was no way I was going to push through that many pages when I already couldn’t stand it!

WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO READ?

The list is long my friends! Here it goes:

  • Scream All Night by Derek Milman
  • Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
  • Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas
  • The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson
  • Sadie by Courtney Summers
  • Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
  • A Million Worlds Without You by Claudia Gray
  • ……… Basically all the books!

    1. Yes!! It’s an easy way for avid readers to talk about books they love and not so big readers to maybe get more excited about reading and find what they want to read 🙂
