Top 5 Books I read as an ARC!

I will admit that I haven’t read a ton of ARC’s in comparison to some. But I’ve been lucky enough to have chosen some that really suited my tastes! Some I anticipated would be 5 stars, and some were a complete surprise! But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t narrow this list down to just 5…….. so here’s your random number for the day. I have 6 LOL.

Oh and quick note to participants – I have an appointment at the hospital to prep me for my surgery next week so I will not have the chance to comment on your posts today. I promise I have read them and will add you to the list as soon as possible!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in August – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

The first two books I would like to talk about are Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff and Artemis by Andy Weir, both of which are science fiction. Lifel1k3 is an obvious favourite for me (if you’ve been following me for a whole 5 minutes then you may have caught my Kristoff obsession!). Artemis was a bit of a surprise. I loved The Martian, but this one felt a little different. And early reviews talked about their dislike of the main character. I, however, LOVED Jazz and all her quirks! In a way I actually liked it more than The Martian!

The next two books are historical fiction – but with a twist! My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows is a historical fiction…. of sorts. It’s also a retelling of Jane Eyre….. and has paranormal elements. This book had it all! But the best part was the humour of the narrator that jumps in from time to time 🙂 And then there’s Invictus. Also a historical fiction with a twist. This actually takes place in the future but they have the ability to travel back in time to record events of historical importance. I loved the book, the settings, and the cast of characters!

Next I have 2 fantasy books. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi is an obvious choice. The writing was stellar, the setting, the plot, the characters….. this is just one of those books that so well written and thought out that you have to love everything about it! I wasn’t even supposed to get the ARC as they were all gone, but it showed up on my doorstep one day and I cried in front of my customers I was so excited! And then there’s Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor. This book holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. First off, it was the first ARC I ever received. I felt as though this gave me validation as a blogger and made me feel like I was finally doing something right. I struggled to get into it, but in the end, it made me cry because the writing was just so beautiful. I sat there stunned in silence as I reread passages multiple times. This is one of the few times that I’ve stuck post it notes in the book because the quotes were too beautiful to forget!

TOP 5 TUESDAY PARTICIPANTS:

Arrow

So those are the top 5 (actually 6) books that I read as ARC’s. There have been so many others that could have made this list, but then it would have been a mile long…. well not really because I haven’t gotten enough ARC’s to reach a mile…. I wanted to say a quick thank you to the publishers I work with for sending me these fantastic books! So thanks Hachette, Raincoast, Penguin, and Harper Collins for letting me spread the word about some seriously amazing books over the last year!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

I’ve thought about getting ARCs for a while – but I’m kind of frightened by the idea – I don’t like saying bad things about books, but what if j end up hating it?? 😁 Plus!! Half the time something ends up being changed -meaning I’d had to buy the book all over again ( which seems like a waste to me ) I think you and everyone else are pretty brave to get ARCs of books! ❤️

    1. I was worried about saying negative things too. I actually contacted the publisher when I ran across my first negative review. They understand that people won’t always love them and fully welcome a negative review as long as you explain why you didn’t like it. The publishers are very understanding about it 🙂

As I’m not on Netgalley I won’t be participating this time around, but still enjoyed your enthusiasm over the arcs you read, and have even added a couple to my owln Wish List to buy.

So many of these are ones I’m really excited to read, especially My Plain Jane. I’ve also just started Children of Blood and Bone and I can definitely understand why everyone loves it, it’s amazing so far!

OMG, i want to read all of these!!
Managed to snatch up Children of Blood and Bone the other day on a Kindle sale ❤
I'm curious about Artemis because i also liked the Martian but lot of reviews said it was quite different.

    1. Artemis was totally different from The Martian. The main character is very “love or hate”. She’s bold, strong, vulgar, makes some bad decisions, but has a heart of gold. I love shady characters so it was right up my alley!

  12. Awesome choices! I haven’t read CoBaB or Strange the Dreamer yet, but I was planning to read the former and I think you may have sold me on the latter. Now to see if the library has them…

    1. I hope you like them! Strange the Dreamer was hard for me to get into. It was probably 4 chapters before I stopped being confused. Just keep that in mind when you pick it up 🙂

Children of Blood and Bone was soo good and actually made it to my list as well! I’ve finished My Plain Jane a few days ago and it was such a fun read and took me completely by surprise!

I still have to read Strange the Dreamer, but I’ve heard amazing things about it, and Laini’s writing is just so whimsical and lyrical that I cannot wait😊.
