Weekly wrap up – July 16 – 22

Another insane blogging and bookish week! My personal life was a bit of a struggle though. A few things happened that sent my anxiety and mental health on a loop. In fact, I drafted a hiatus post and planned to take a couple days off. But in this case I just really needed something happy, positive, and outside of my stress to focus on. And that’s exactly what I did. It helped in ways, while in others I struggled. Mainly with being present for comments. This week was really bad for that. I was so focused on other things I couldn’t get the energy to do it. But I’m getting better. Here’s what happened in my bookish world this week:

The first book I finished this week was The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. This book was really stunning! It’s one of those books were you think nothing much is happening at the time, but when it hits the fan, all those details come together in a stunning way. I did have some issues with the pacing, and a couple other minor issues, but all in all this was a fantastic read!

The second book I finished was One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid. She is most well known for her most recent publication, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I knew that I was going to love her writing style (which I did) so there was little to no hesitation. The only hesitation that I had was due to the fact that this was a love triangle. Woman thinks husband is dead, gets engaged to a new man, and then husband shows up alive. It’s like Castaway but from the wife’s perspective. I ended up loving it! Maybe not as much as Evelyn Hugo, but i’m so glad I read it!

Hopefully soon I’ll be caught up on my reviews so I can link them in my wrap ups like I intended! lol

A closed and common orbit

I kind of waited until the last minute for this one. It is my final choice for my TBR unhaul for the month of July and I’m pushing it too close to the end of the month. If I want to keep it, I need to read it!

WOW!!! I couldn’t believe what was happening on Tuesday! There were over FOURTY participants this week! And possibly the most new participants as well! It was so nice to see so many people talking about their Top 5 Books you want to reread. I still haven’t commented on your posts. I sincerely apologize. That was the day I had two 8 year old boys running around then I ended up at the ER to get a centimetre long sliver taken out of my middle finger on my right hand. I couldn’t feel anything on my hand except for my thumb afterwards.  The rest of the week was busy with work, doctors appointments, and everything else. I hope that today I will get the chance to comment!! And I sincerely hope that next week will run smoothly! Speaking of next week, the topic is the top 5 books you’ve read because of blogs/booktube. Can’t wait to see your lists!

Last week my big news was all about the blog tour I’m doing for Raincoast books, and the fact that I was quoted by Harber Collins. This week? I was followed by Chapters Indigo! If you’re not aware who that is, they are Canada’s biggest booksellers. I shop there almost exclusively and the fact that they followed me made my day! Being followed by a big place like this might not be so exciting to some, but this made my whole week!

Mind. Blown. Seriously. When I started this blog I didn’t think that anyone would read it. I decided that if I managed to get 100 followers it would be the biggest success! Well, that amount has come and gone many times over and I can’t be more grateful! I appreciate each and every one you. I am so thankful for each and every like, comment, and conversation. I wanted to do a giveaway when/if I hit 2,000 but I apologize that it will have to wait. It’s almost back to school time which means that my kids need supplies and a wardrobe….. which also means I’m about to be bankrupt. I will be doing a thank you giveaway as soon as my wallet recovers!

That was my week! It was insane – seriously. It’s been a long time since I’ve had so many emotional ups and downs. Thankfully (as always) the blog is my happy, positive, saving grace. I hope you all had a great week!

Until next time, happy reading!

You are the third person I’ve seen today that has either read The Poppy War or just purchased it. Totally have no need of any new books, but maybe I need this one… As a newby blogger, I can’t even imagine having 5 followers, so congrats on 2,000. That’s amazing!

    1. I didn’t need to buy this one either. I’m basically on a buying ban for a while, but this one was talked about so often that I had to. It was well worth it!
And thanks! When I first started I never imagined that I would hit 100 let alone 2,000. It will happen 🙂

  13. Congrats on hitting 2000 followers and all of your other accomplishments this week! 🙂 I’m so glad to hear your feedback on the books you finished. I just bought The Poppy War on my Kindle but I was a little hesitant about reading it so hearing a positive review makes me feel more confident. I love books where the little details being mentioned throughout the story finally tie together. Also, I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo SO much. For some strange reason, I haven’t looked into her other books yet but I’m glad to hear about this one because it sounds really good! I loved Castaway. Lastly, I hope you continue to feel better ❤

    1. Thanks! And I hope you like The Poppy War as much as I did! Evelyn Hugo was great! One True Loves was still good but not as good as Evelyn Hugo was. Still worth the read 🙂
