Weekly Wrap up – July 2 – 8

What a weird week! I thought that I would get a TON of reading done. My kids were off camping with my parents for the week and my husband was out fishing every day to prepare for a tournament. But what ended up happening was I walked around in circles a lot because I didn’t have people asking me to do things for them 24/7. It felt weird! I managed to go out camping for the night, spent some quality time with my husband, AND finished three books…….. all of which I rated 5 stars!!! I also DNF’d my second book for the year which broke my heart. More on that later. Here’s what happened this week:

BOOKS I’VE FINISHED THIS WEEK:

These books couldn’t be more different from each other, yet somehow they all got 5 stars. And for very different reasons! The Hearts Invisible Furies by John Boyne was a book that I had been hearing about for months. I love his other book (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) so I figured that this one would be emotional as well. That – It – Was……. and was it ever! I had an awful book hangover after this one. The emotions that swelled was overwhelming and such a large range as well. I will have the full review up tomorrow. I have others that I need to review but I wanted to rave about this one before I forgot all the details!

After finishing that one, I felt like I needed something relaxed and highly entertaining. At the Stroke of Midnight by Tara Sivec fit the mould! This book was downright HILARIOUS!!! There was such an amazing and empowering plot, followed by my new bookish bestie Ariel, who was one of the most lewd and bold women in books! Full review coming Wednesday July 18.

Then, I decided to pick up my ARC for Hachette Book Group early and I read Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell. I had a feeling from the synopsis that I would like this book, but I didn’t like it – I LOVED IT!!! This book had literally everything that I crave in a fantasy novel! Full review coming Monday July 16.

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

I haven’t decided yet to be honest. I just finished Spellslinger yesterday so I haven’t had the chance to pick something new. I would pick something from my Tome Topple Readathon TBR but nothing is connecting with me. Not sure what I’ll pick up yet 🙂

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY

This week was so much fun! It was all about naked hardcovers. There are so many surprises hiding under the dust jacket! But, if there was a way to “win” top 5 Tuesday, Sophie at Beware of the Reader would take home the gold! She did a serious topic, but then surprised me with what I was expecting from her – which is, some EYE CANDY!!! Please take a minute to check out THIS POST – you won’t regret it! I promise.

BYE BYE BULLET JOURNAL

I’ve made a very difficult decision this week. I’ve decided to give up on my bullet journal. I LOVED doing this. So much. It let my creativity flow and I was actually drawing again! But when I was about to set up my spreads for July, I realized that it was too much. I was spending at least 10 hours drawing out all my layouts, choosing a theme, colours, and designs. I really started to question if the 10+ hours was worth it. In the end, my answer was no. SO, during one of my days of mindless web surfing, I stumbled across Erin Condren. I’ve decided that I will be switching to a pre printed planner. It even has space for me to draw! Now that I have more than 10 hours of spare time each month, I will be spending it drawing! I also ordered a notebook for all my blog stuff that doesn’t require a lengthy set up time. Pics to come as soon as I get it in the mail and set it up!

That’s pretty much my week. I had an absolute blast camping with my kids and I missed them immensely! Them not being here threw me for a loop. I’m so glad to finally be getting some normalcy back! I may be a bit non existent next week as I’ve got a bunch of things that need to be done, a few doctors appointments, and my daughter is turning 13 tomorrow!!!!! I’ll officially be the mom of a teenager……. I’m going to go cry in a corner with a bottle of wine now…….

Until next time, happy reading!

  1. I understand about the bullet journal! I was the same a couple of months ago. I wasn’t finding the time, but I do miss the task tracker, it was the most valuable part for me. I need to find a pre-printed version of it.

    1. That’s what I think I’ll miss the most too. I got a journal to go along with it so I think I may still do that. It doesn’t take too long to draw out a page or two. But ALL the pages / it was too much

  2. I love it when I read more than one 5 star book in a row! I am also looking forward to seeing the pics of your new planner. I’m looking for a new decent planner as I can’t keep up with my bullet journal either 🙈

    1. Agreed! It had been a while since I’ve read one 5 star read let alone 3 back to back!
I’ll be sure to do a post all about the planner when I get it in the mail. I went with an Erin Condren horizontal life planner. I hope it’s easier!

  5. Just a tad bit of empty nest syndrome there? Enjoy the teen, but keep the bottle handy. Depending–you may need it.

    1. I’ve got multiple bottles at the ready 😂. I never expected empty nest syndrome to kick in after only a day though!

    1. Sophie really is amazing!! I love her humour and she’s seriously sweet!

Ain’t nobody got time for that – great. Now I need to watch that video again so I can laugh my head off. Good lord, there’s a fire 😂 😂 I spend hours watching planner videos. Especially Cindy Guentert-Baldo (Llama loves letters). I bought that Erin Condren because she made hers look so beautiful!

  8. Keep up the good work, I have a reading journal but I keep to the basics there, only TBR lists and reviews. No drawing or coloring, that I do in a separate page when I have the time that usually is two hours per month. Another thing, I mentioned your blog in my Liebster Award post (https://wordpress.com/post/leticiatoraci.wordpress.com/3329) If you wish to be part of it leave a comment there so I can see your answers, thanks!
