June was a good or bad month, depending on how we want to look at things! My wallet says “calm the hell down”, my book shelves are silently weeping, and I’m smiling like a fool. This was my first double digit book haul of the year though so I’m proud! I also did a lot of book sale and thrift store shopping, so it wasn’t as financially painful as it could have been. Here’s what I hauled this month…..
BOOK STORE PURCHASES:
SAVE THE DATE by Morgan Matson – This one was a preorder that I was so excited for. It was really adorable, features wedding chaos, and a disfunction/great family. I really enjoyed this one!
A HOUSE EAT THE BOTTOM OF A LAKE by Josh Malerman – This was my second book by this author (Bird Box) and I actually think I enjoyed it more. It was very creepy, atmospheric, and dark, but missed the mark by being a little too vague. If I knew the details of what I was supposed to be afraid of, this book would have been fantastic. I think this author just isn’t for me.
SIX STORIES by Matt Wesolowski – This was another mystery novel that I’ve already read. There were some really positive aspects and some negative ones. But I think the fact that I figured out the “who” in the first part of the book took most of my enjoyment away.
THRIFT STORE FINDS:
ELEANOR AND PARK by Rainbow Rowell – This is a book that I’ve been considering for the longest time. I LOVE Rainbow Rowell, but her YA books always seem a little too young for me. I like them, but I can’t relate to them like I want to. I don’t know if I’ll read it, but for 1$ I don’t regret adding it to my collection 🙂
ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL by Jesse Andrews – This is one of the first books that I remember hearing about when I started watching BookTube videos. Almost everyone that read YA was talking about it. It seems like it can be quirky and funny but, once again, I feel like it might be a little too young for me. I guess we will wait and see!
SCRAPPY LITTLE NOBODY by Anna Kendrick – I LOVE Anna Kendrick!! I’ve watched every movie she’s in and she seems like a great person in general. I can’t wait to get to this! I bet it will be hilarious!
HAUNTED by Chuck Palahniuk – I finally bought a Chuck Palahniuk! I’ve had people screaming at me for months to read something by him but I never felt the drive to. When I saw it at the thrift store though, I couldn’t grab it fast enough. I feel like it’s fate.
HONEST ILLUSIONS by Nora Roberts – Every summer I read a Nora Roberts. Her characters are always so great, her writing draws you in, and her books always feel like a great escape. I don’t even know what it’s about but I don’t care. It’s Nora Roberts and I paid 1$ lol
MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME by various authors – I absolutely can not wait for this!!!!! I keep seeing it near Christmas time and it looks like so much fun. There are so many authors that I absolutely LOVE! I’m not a big fan of short stories but I love these authors so I have a feeling this is going to be so much fun! Is it Christmas time yet??
LAST BUT (CERTAINLY) NOT LEAST…….
CHAMBER OF SECRETS SPECIAL EDITIONS!!!!!
I had to! I especially had to when Chapters Indigo had them on sale for 40% off lol. I have a hardcover special edition of Philosophers stone in the Gryffindor house, and the paperback in the Ravenclaw house. Now I will have editions of the other two houses! Unfortunately my Harry Potter shelf can fit no more the way it is…… so now I need to reorganize!
There are the 11 books I bought this month! Only two of them were at full price though so there’s that lol. The majority of them I only spend 1$ on! I do need to calm things down for the rest of the summer though. Kids need clothes and back to school things soon enough! What did you get this month?
Until next time, happy reading!
Great haul! I adored Anne Kendrick’s book. Her personality really shone through! I was not a fan of Eleanor and Park but for $1 it is definitely worth picking up and seeing what you think. I read My True Love Gave to Me last Christmas and it definitely put me in the Christmas spirit!

I really doubt I’ll read Elenor and Park. It just doesn’t seem to suit me. I basically bought it to add to my Rainbow Rowell collection! And my daughter can read it 🙂

My favourite ever thing to do is go thrift store hunting (they’re called charity shops here in the uk!). I always seem to find brilliant finds ☺️☺️

It’s disappointing sometimes when you leave empty handed, but finding some amazing books at amazing prices is the type of rush bookworms live for 😂

I tried reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk when I was a teenager and it freaked me out SO MUCH I went and donated it away hahahah. I wonder if I’d handle it better now, but some of what I read still haunt me…..it is very aptly titled. I look forward to your thoughts on it when you read it!!

I need to get my hands on the Hufflepuff Chamber of Secrets. I bought both hardback and paperback of #1, but ended up giving my hardback away to my friends kid’s 10th birthday. Now that I think of it, I should get him #2 for this year!

Aweeeee! That’s so sweet of you to give up something you love to a kid. It’s nice that you have something to give him to love and collect. I hope he keeps up with reading!

He absolutely LOVES Harry Potter and he was so excited when he found you we were both Hufflepuffs. I think I’m going to get him the second one for his birthday this year too xD

I personally really enjoyed Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Be prepared for gross teenage boy humor, though. I thought I’d let you know since you think it might be too young for you.

It’s probably way too young for me. But my husband acts a lot like a teenage boy so…. 😂

Nice haul! Honestly, the moment I spot Anna Kendrick’s book in a bookstore, I’m grabbing it.
Hasn’t happened so far – which is good since book buying ban – but it’s bound to happen at some point, haha.
Enjoy your haul! 😀 [Definitely a good month. We all need some decent book buying therapy once in a while.]

That’s when you’ll see it – when you’re on a book buying ban. You’ll also see 10 more that you want too! When does you ban end? Seems like it’s been a while now
