It feels like these books were chosen ages ago for some reason! Maybe because I’ve read so much this month? Who knows! But here I am, wrapping up my second TBR unhaul challenge. Things went really well this month! Let me start with the books that were chosen:
The first book that was chosen in June was Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. This was picked from my TBR jar and I was so happy to pick it because it finally forced me to read it! I’ve mentioned many times that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Fangirl, so I was really nervous about this one. So many people told me that the two weren’t even close to the same so I should give it a go. They were right. This was nothing like Fangirl at all! It had a bit of a slow start. I honestly almost DNF’d it. I couldn’t stop comparing it to Harry Potter and I felt like I started a series halfway through. For the first half I felt like I was playing catch up. Luckily after the second half it all fell into place and the romance was possibly my favourite part! Click here for my full review 🙂
Next is A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess. This is the book that my daughter chose for me to read – and she chose it pretty much because she read the synopsis and wanted to read it herself! This is one that I know she will love actually! For me though, well, I’m a bit confused and don’t know how I feel about it. On one hand it was well written, unexpected, adventurous, and I absolutely loved the main character Henrietta. But, on the other hand, I was bored a lot of the way through. There seemed to be something missing the whole time that I couldn’t really put my finger on. Maybe there wasn’t quite enough character development or I didn’t necessarily enjoy the characters plot lines or decisions…… something just felt off. It was good, just not mid blowing, and I find that Im forgetting a lot of the details now that I’ve finished it. I ended up rating it 3 – 3.5 stars
TBR UNHAUL TOTALS:
BOOKS READ: 3
BOOKS UNHAULED: 1
I am SO glad that I chose to do this! I feel like I’m finally putting a dent in my TBR tower of doom lol. I’ve been reading a few other backlisted books on top of these as well. But choosing from a jar and having my kids choose a book as well is finally pushing me to read the books that I’ve been putting off for WAY too long! What books are on your TBR list that you’ve been hesitant to get to?
Until next time, happy reading!
