Top 5 Summertime Reads!

It’s time for summertime and beach reads! Sitting by the pool, out camping, at the beach – so many great places to read outdoors! I’m also a seasonal reader so I tend to read more easy going books. Contemporaries, adventurous science fiction, mystery – all the stuff that you can set aside during a busy season and pick right back up again. I do read fantasy, but not as much in the summer. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with – maybe I’ll get some good recommendations! Probably will 🙂

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming Topics in July – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

Starflight

STARFLIGHT by Melissa Landers
I chose this one because it’s just so much fun! This is just the type of book that sucks you straight into a non stop adventure. It’s got great characters and is full of action. It’s not mind blowing by any means. It’s not the type of book that will change your life or make you think. BUT – it’s the perfect book to take your mind off things and take you to far away places, smiling all the way!

a-head-full-of-ghosts

A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS by Paul Tremblay
This is hands down my favourite horror novel to date. I’ve read many Stephen King, but none of his books gave me the creeps as much as this one did! If you’re out camping or reading by the fire, this is the PERFECT book! When I think summer, I think scary ghost stories at night. This would definitely fit that description!

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This one is a little more in depth emotionally than the rest, but still a perfect summer read. We follow the life of Hollywood Star Evenlyn Hugo. We learn of her upbringing, her career, her relationships, and everything in between. This was such an unexpected surprise! I loved it so much that I wanted to reread it almost immediately. It’s nice to have a book that will kick you right in the emotions over the summer. You’ll find yourself completely forgetting your surroundings and falling in love with this story!

When Dimple met Rishi

WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI by Sandhya Menon
If you’re in the mood for a light contemporary read, this one is adorable! It takes place at a summer camp for computer programming and includes an adorable romance, friendships, family, and so much more. The setting is perfect and, like I said, it’s a super cute read! Everyone needs a little summertime romance!

Since you've been gone

SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE by Morgan Matson
Yet another read that screams summer – I mean look at the cover! This is about a girl who is a bit of a follower. She is lead by her best friend who always seems to take charge. But when her best friend goes missing, she leaves behind a summertime bucket list – a list of things that she needs to do and experience. Morgan Matson is very well known for writing fluffy contemporaries. This is definitely a fun one!

Now that I’ve mentioned all of these summer reads, I actually want to reread them! I love being able to just lose myself in something light and fluffy, or dark and scary. What are your favourite summer time reads?

Until next time, happy reading!

I’ve read a bunch of top 5 lists this morning and I’m no close to understanding what qualifies a book as summer (other than a cover with people eating ice cream.) I’m just dense like that.

    1. Lol just books that are fun to read in the summer time. Light, adventurous, funny, creepy – whatever your heart desires. This is more geared towards the mood reader 🙂

I’m thinking I’m not a mood reader… Around Halloween I like to read a creepy story, but mostly there’s no bad time for any given book.

        1. I wish I was like that. Unfortunately I only read certain books during certain seasons, and if I’m not in the mood, no matter how badly I want to read it, I won’t touch it. Mood reading is a pain!

    1. Morgan Matson books are long, but really quick to read. The Seven Husbands was a book I thought I would HATE. It didn’t sound like my taste at all. It ended up being one of my all time favourites!

    1. Oh I’ve got books like that! I’m not a contemporary person AT ALL but this one was adorable. It does have a lot of mixed reviews but I loved it!
