TBR Unhaul – Wrap up #1

It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve mentioned the TBR unhaul. If you don’t remember what this is all about, you can check out the information post HERE. But the quick rundown is this: Each month I HAVE to read 2 of my backlisted books sitting on TBR shelf or else I have to unhaul them. One book is chosen from a jar from me, and the other is chosen by my kids. I have only one save for the year if I didn’t get to it that month. This was my first month with this project…… and what a month it was!!! Let’s just say that two VERY UNEXPECTED things happened…..

My lady Jane

The first book that was chosen out of my TBR jar was My Lady Jane. I was SOOOOO excited when this one was pulled out because I’ve been wanting to get to it for the longest time! It seemed that every time I meant to pick it up, something would happen and derail my plans. This was finally my excuse to just get to it already! I had heard SO MANY positive reviews saying that it was wonderful and hilarious. IT TOTALLY WAS! The unexpected thing with this book is that it made it’s way to the top of the list for books I’ve read in 2018. I was smiling like an idiot, laughing out loud, and totally invested in these characters. For my full review, click HERE!

Code name verity

The next book on my TBR was chosen by my son and that is Code Name Verity. I am a HUGE fan of historical fiction. Especially those pertaining to WWII. So when he picked this I couldn’t have been happier! The unexpected thing about this book……. I didn’t read it. And I’m not mad about that decision either. I read the first 3 chapters and I couldn’t get into it. The writing style immediately hit me as something I couldn’t enjoy. The perspective felt so immature, modern, and confusing. I tried – I really did. But I couldn’t get past the writing. I only spent 1$ on this book at the used book store, so it’s not a terrible loss. I don’t doubt that this is a book that others can enjoy, but it’s not the right one for me.

TBR UNHAUL TOTALS:

BOOKS READ: 1

BOOKS UNHAULED: 1

We are off to a strange start! But I’m even more excited to continue with this for the rest of the year! Expect to see my next two choices for the month of June in my TBR posted tomorrow 🙂

Until next time, happy reading!

      1. Yeah, the first chapters are the hardest to get through. It does get better but I definitely was thinking of DNFing it at one point.

    1. 😂 I was nervous to start this but now, it’s game on! I didn’t expect to unhaul a book in the first month though…. I rarely unhaul books. Maybe I’m finally letting go
