Top 5 Ending/Last lines

Ok, ok. I know that there are some people who refuse to know the last line before going into a book. BUT – I promise that there will be NO spoilers! And, I need to let you in on a little secret……. When I open a new book I read the last line before I read the first! SHOCKER! I’ve yet to spoil myself doing this. And I don’t know why I do it! But I can usually tell with that last line if I’m going to like the book or not. *hides in shame* Last lines are almost as important to me as first lines. That final statement has a way of either wrapping things up nicely or creating high anticipation. Once again, I couldn’t narrow down the list, so I have 7 lines for you…. here we go!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in May – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

Illuminae

Now run.

Who knew that two words can leave such an impact! So simple yet it speaks volumes to the series as a whole.

the-night-circus

You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.

Yet another simple statement that packs a punch. Reading this one, I knew that this was going to be a book I loved. Books with dreams and grey lines between reality and magic/fantasy are my favourite. But, if you’ve read this book, this last line is even more amazing!

The book thief

A LAST NOTE FROM YOUR NARRATOR – I am haunted by humans.

Do I really need to say anything about this line??? This one gives me goosebumps!

Hold back the stars

Behind them, the light of the Milky Way burns like fire as a heaviness falls on their lungs; and, in the grip of each other’s loving embrace, under the weight of a thousand stars, Max and Carys begin to dance.

This is the closest to a spoiler I can get without actually giving anything away. I remember finishing this book, reading that last line, and just being blown away by the beauty of it. There’s so much significance to this line and it shoots an arrow straight to the heart. Brings tears to my eyes just reading it again!

crooked-kingdon

He’d drink to the whole sorry lot of them, but mostly to the poor fools who didn’t know what trouble was coming.

If you’ve read the Six of Crows duology, you’ll know how this last line sums up the entire thing! It’s got attitude and aggression and, most of all, it mentions trouble – which is basically the whole thing! lol

Also, the top 5 Tuesday list for June will be coming out on Monday May 28. Hope you will like the topics!

Until next time, happy reading!

  3. I started reading Six of Crows back in December and I got to a point where I just couldn’t finish it. Maybe I need to restart it.

    1. I remember it taking me probably half the book to really get into it. The beginning was a bit confusing and set the world and characters up. But once it gets going you can’t put it down!

      1. I know that I got to the point where the main group had crossed the water/ocean and were hiking up a cliff to get to where they needed to pull the heist, but for some reason I put it down and never had the motivation to put it back up lol

        1. Oh that’s where the book really picked up for me. So maybe that book just isn’t for you.

          1. Ughhh but mom bought me a fancy hardcover set with a slipcover and it came in after Christmas lol It probably just came into my life at a bad time, and I’ll try to pick it up sometime this summer when things calm down a bit.

          2. Oh no!! I hate it when you get a hardcover (especially a fancy one) expecting to love it and it’s just not what you were looking for ☹️

    Hello Shanah!
That’s neat that you read the last line of a book first! You are right that the last line says a lot about the novel as a whole 🙂
I loved the lines that you shared here. My personal favourites are the ones from The Night Circus and The Book Thief, two books that I enjoyed very much.
