The Birthday Book Tag!

Yup, yesterday was my birthday. I’m one year older yet I still feel like I’m in my 20’s. But, sadly it is the 13th anniversary of my 23rd birthday….. i’m almost a fossil! LOL Well at least that’s what my kids tell me! I guess it’s a good thing to be in my mid 30’s and still feel like I’m in my 20’s. Hell! I still get ID’d at the liquor store on a constant basis and I got mistaken for a student when I brought my daughter to the high school!!! Yay for good genes! Anyways, I did this tag last year so I thought I would do an updated version this year. if you want to see my list from last year, click HERE!

1 – BIRTHDAY CAKE – a book with a plot that seems cliche but you adore it anyway

I really struggled to answer this one! But, I guess I could list Children of Blood and Bone as the answer for this. We have a girl born with magical powers, the king has taken it away, and now it’s up to her to get them back for the people. This has been done in quite a few books (Ahem, Throne of Glass), but I feel that authors over the last few years have done a fantastic job with taking overdone ideas and giving it their own spin. I haven’t come across too many books over the last few years that I didn’t think were completely original in their own way. That’s a good thing!

2 – PARTY GUESTS – your most anticipated book release this year

KINGDOM OF ASH by Sarah J Maas! We finally have a finale! I’m petrified but excited to see how it all plays out. The last book set things up to go horribly wrong….. and I’m not sure that everyone will make it….. eep! I didn’t post a cover as a final cover isn’t available yet that I could find.

3 – BIRTHDAY PRESENTS – a book that surprised you with how much you loved it

I finished this weeks ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it ever since! It’s historical fiction which I love, but when I heard that there were elements of magical realism, I was terrified! It’s gotten so many positive reviews so I gave it a go. I LOVED it!!!! WAY more than I ever expected! The characters, the plot, the humour…. I loved it all! A new all time favourite!

4 – THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG – a book that certainly deserved all the hype it got

This book – THIS BOOK! It deserves all the hype and more! Because the hype was so intense I was nervous I wouldn’t like it as much. But I flew through it so fast and wanted more immediately!!

5 – HAPPY MUSIC – a book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

Though this wasn’t my favourite book ever written, there’s no denying that the writing was beautiful! It was poetic and beautifully described, full of emotion and magic. Its amazing that her writing was just as beautiful as the cover – because this cover is STUNNING!!!

6 – GETTING OLDER – a book that you read a long time ago, but you think that you would appreciate it more if you read it as a more mature reader

I don’t really know how to answer this one. There are a few that I’ve read where I was happy that I read it when I was older, but not so much the other way around. Such as The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. If I had read this as a teenager or in my early 20s I don’t think I would have loved it as much.

7 – SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES – a book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

I’ve talked about it a few times. February and March were two of the worst months I’ve ever had for my anxiety. It overtook literally every aspect of my life and I felt like I was being swallowed by a black hole. I picked this up randomly one day just because it was short. But I loved it so much and focused on every detail that, for just a short time, I forgot about the personal hell I was living. It took me to another place and it was wonderful!

So that was the birthday book tag! I’m hoping that I can follow up this post in a couple weeks with a big birthday book haul!!
