I was tagged by the ever amazing Paige at The Girl With All The Books to do this tag. And, I know I shouldn’t be surprised by this, but I was laughing at how similar my answers are to hers! There are a few people in this bookish community that I’ve met and wondered if they’re my twin separated at birth – and she’s one of them! So here’s the 20 Questions book tag!
1 – How many books is too many books in a series?
Hmmmm ok. I really don’t know how to answer this! I was thinking 5. But as Paige pointed out, Harry Potter has more than 5 and I was totally fine with it. So it depends on the series…… question mark?
2 – How do you feel about cliff hangers?
Love hate relationship here. I hate them because it leaves you frustrated and unsatisfied sometimes. You know that you’ll have to spend the next year wondering how it turns out! Yet, at the same time, a well done cliffhanger makes me remember the story. I always think back to it and remember details I would have otherwise forgotten. So it increases my memory as I anticipate the conclusion. Yup, love hate is the answer I’m going with here!
3 – Hardback or Paperback?
PAPERBACK! I love the look of a hardcover but they’re just so awkward to hold sometimes. Give me a paperback any day of the week (every day of the week preferably!) Especially the big floppy kinds that make farting noises as you flip the pages quickly….. Love those!
4 – Favourite book?
Are you asking me to choose my favourite child while you’re at it? This question is impossible to answer. So I won’t.
5 – Least favourite book?
This one I have an answer for. Gone Girl.
6 – Love triangles, yes or no?
Yet another question I don’t have a clear cut answer for. My gut reaction says no. They can be overwhelming and annoying. But, if written well, and if the triangle actually has something to lend the story as a whole, then yes. But the triangle has to actually have a point to the story and add to it. When Triangles are used just as a dramatic effect, it’s annoying. So stop it.
7 – The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?
The Marrow Thieves. Not that it was bad! It’s actually quite good. But it was so slow moving in the beginning and I could feel the dragging story starting to put me into a slump. It’s atmospheric and slow burning, but I’m just not in the right mood for it right now. I will be finishing it soon though, but I think I’ll take it a chapter at a time.
8 – A book you’re currently reading?
9 – The last book you recommended to someone?
The Throne of Glass series. My mom recently finished the ACOTAR series and experienced her first ever book hangover. I recommended that she cure it with more Sarah J Maas! It worked lol
10 – The oldest book you’ve read (publication date)?
The Great Gatsby (published in 1925) and it was one of my absolute books I was forced to read in high school!!
11 – Newest book you’ve read (publication date)
Sky in the Deep – published on April 24, 2018. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and it was really fantastic!
12 – Favourite author?
Jay Kristoff – stop rolling your eyes! I know you all expected it. But I also love Sarah J Maas, Ryan Graudin…. the list could go on!
13 – Buying books or borrowing books?
Both. But mainly I buy. I have a thing that I need to own the books I’ve read and loved. I do borrow from the library, but only in the case where i’m not sure that I’ll regret spending the money. But any book that I’ve borrowed and loved, I bought a physical copy.
14 – A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?
See my Top 5 Tuesday post all about that! I have quite a few unpopular opinions. One I’ve already mentioned in this tag…….
15 – Bookmarks or dog ears?
Bookmarks. Always a bookmark. I have nothing against people who dog ear, but I wouldn’t intentionally bend the pages of a book. I’m also a busy person who is interrupted every other page, so the book would be a mess after I was done with it!
16 – A book you can always reread?
Harry Potter. Always. (see what I did there??)
17 – Can you read while hearing music?
No. Not really. I don’t need complete silence though. I have a husband and two kids so background noise is constant. I’m fine if the TV is on and actually prefer to listen to a noise app. The sound of water and rain especially. It helps me focus. But music would make me want to dance and sing along. It’s like a real life Glee….
18 – One POV or multiple POV’s (POV = points of view)
Multiple. I feel like you get a more complete picture when you see different sides to the situation. Things are explained better and it helps me get more connected with more than just one character.
19 – Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
I wish I could read them in one sitting! But, like I said, I’m way too busy to do that. Maybe once my kids are grown I can!
20 – A book you’ve read because of the cover?
Hmmm this is a hard one! Maybe Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay Ely. I mean look at it! It’s bad ass and the colours are fantastic! I was sold by the cover but the synopsis was even better! But, honestly, I pick up a lot of books based on the cover….. I’m THAT person lol!
This was such a fun tag to do! I love questions like this. I know that quite a few people have done this tag so I’ll only be tagging a few. No pressure though!
Until next time, happy reading!
I related so hard to some of your answers! I can’t do music with lyrics but can do white noise or instrumentals. I def knew Jay Kristoff would be your pick though haha! agree 100% on love triangles only if they add to the story *woot woot* Thank you for tagging me, I actually did this one last month & it was like laying my soul bare HAHA! Great answers, happy reading! ❤ ❤ ❤

You hated Gone Girl more than Girl on a Train?? I mean they were both awful. But, I wanted to have a book burning party after Girl in a Train to cleanse my soul. Lol!!!
I agree with your thoughts on bookmarks vs dog ears.. I can’t hurt my precious books… Although, I am jealous of people who aren’t afraid to make notes a d jighlight in their books. I think. It would be interesting to go back to and would make life easier when I wanted quotes… But I JUST CAN’T DO IT!! 💖💖📚📚💖

I never read The Girl on the Train. I watched the movie trailer and got instant Gone Girl vibes…. so I stayed FAR away! 😂

Smart! I did the opposite! Lol! Now I avoid thrillers with “girl” or “woman” in the title altogether… There are SO MANY OF THEM!! 😕😲

Great post! I loved your answers. You’ve inspired me to participate in this tag Shanah! I am so with you on bookmarks and multiple POVs. Also, I wish I had time to read a full book in a day too. I don’t know how some bloggers do it! I need like 24 more hours in a day.

24 more hours in a day sounds fantastic!! And most definitely needed! I would be hiding under a blanket for all of those 24 hours, listening to the sound of rain, and reading! Only taking breaks for wine and chocolate lol

Thank you so much for tagging me! I’m about to start Sky in the Deep (it’s one of my most recent acquired books), and also bought Gunslinger Girl just because of the cover (well… mainly😅).

Your comment about buying versus borrowing books is exactly how I feel. My mom doesn’t understand why I’d want a book after I’ve already read it.. she was so confused when she bought me some books for my birthday/Easter and I had already read them. So I totally get the book twin vibes. Loved your answers and I may steal this tag at some point!

Luckily my mom agrees with me and keeps the books she’s read and loved! Go ahead and steal away! I was going to tag you but I wasn’t sure if you’ve done this one yet or not 🙂

lmao Your description of the farting sound big floppy paperback books make made me laugh. Too funny, and I knew immediately what you were talking about. 😛
Great answers all around. Especially smoothly slipping in that “Always” for the Harry Potter answer you gave. 😉
