March Book Haul!

March was apparently the month of ARC’s as I ended up with 4 books on my shelf and I only purchased one of them. This is a very rare occasion to get so many, and I am SO very thankful for the generosity of the publishers for sending me these! Also, let me point out the other rare unicorn that I only bought one book this month!! I’m so proud of myself!

That time I loved you

First is That Time I Loved You by Carrianne Young that was sent to me by Harper Collins. I got a random email asking if I would be interested and I took a chance. The cover was interesting and the synopsis sounded intriguing. It turned out to be wonderful! For any of my readers who enjoy young adult but are looking to get into adult, this might be a good place to start. To see my review click here

Children of blood and bone

Next I got an ARC of Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi from Raincoast books (Henry Holt). I was in our store when my husband brought this package in from the mail and I screamed like a little girl……. of course there were like 5 customers in the store at the time and they all witnessed my happy dance then looked at me like I had 3 heads. I don’t care! It was worth it because I was just THAT excited! I started on this one a couple of days ago and immediately fell in love with her lush writing. It’s great so far!

Tyler Johnson was here

My last ARC this month was Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles, graciously sent to me by Hachette Book Group Canada (Little Brown). I have already read it but decided against posting a review, which was hands down the hardest decision I’ve made in my life. I enjoyed the book, the message, and the perspective, but I had a few issues with it. I had a hard time with the pacing, repetition, and the character development. It felt like it needed to go through a round or two of editing to polish it a little more. But the main reason why I made the choice not to review it was because of my personal experience with some of the sensitive subject matter. I won’t get into it here (or at all) but I fear that in me explaining my issues I would word something incorrectly and unintentionally hurt either a reader or the author. I very much appreciate this book and the message, but this book just wasn’t for me.

Obsidio

And finally, we have Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Of course I bought this! I actually preordered it in October! I’m happy to say that it was well worth the wait!! For my full review please click here

Arrow

This may never happen again, so I hope it’s been properly marked in the history books. I think this is the smallest book haul I’ve ever done! Maybe this will help me in the long run with my beat the backlist challenge! Let’s see if I can keep it up 🙂

Until next time, happy reading!

  9. Obsidio is everything! ❤ I totally hated the book for a bit there – blame my first ever book hangover, seriously.. – but now I'm back to loving it 200%, haha! And I'm almost in the middle of Children of Blood and Bone – THAT WRITING. Honestly, it's been a while since I was this impressed with an author's debut. Truly. ❤

    1. Exactly!! Her writing is flawless. The characters, the plot, the pacing, suspense, magic – it’s all so glorious!

      1. I couldn’t agree more! There are even certain quotes I wanted to mark a hundred times over because they’re so.. TRUE. It’s been a while since I’ve used this many sticky notes in a book.. It’s a freaking rainbow by now.. :’)

        1. 😂 I always plan to use sticky notes but then I get too into the book and can’t remember where the quote was…. I’m so bad at that!
