March Wrap Up!

Yes, I realize that there are still a few days left in the month, but I literally JUST started Children of Blood and Bone, and there’s no way that I’ll finish it this month. So I thought I would get ahead of the game and do my wrap up early. And I am SO PROUD to say that I finished 10 books this month! Double digits again! Not only that, but three of those books were over 600 pages, making it a total of 3,900 pages even! I have no clue how it happened because this month was BUSY! But there were so many 5 star reads this month so maybe I read a little faster? Without further ado, let’s get into the books I read in March!

Everything I never told you

EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU by Celeste Ng <—– (full review) 2.75 stars

This one fell completely flat for me. I expected a little bit of mystery seeing as how the book starts out with the first born child in the family is found dead. But there was really no focus on how she died. It focused more on the family dynamic and the past of the parents. I understood the parents and their different goals and decisions, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I did, however, enjoy her writing, so I may give another one of her books a change.

illuminae-files

Next I did a reread of Illumina and Gemina to prepare myself for the release of Obsidio! I loved these books so much more the second time around. Knowing what I knew after reading Gemina only increased my love of Illuminae. And rereading both only increased my love of this interstellar rag tag family!!! These characters are just so amazing!

i stop somewhere insta

I STOP SOMEWHERE by T.E. Carter <—– (full review) 4.5 stars

Wow this book. As I state in the review, this is possibly one of the most triggering and descriptive books that deal with the subject of rape. This will NOT be for everyone. But it was such an impacting and well written book that sheds light on so many different angles. We see what happens to the victim, the attacker, the parents, the friends, the community, the police, and so many more. The story felt so much larger than the book could contain and I’m glad that I read it, even though it was such a hard read!

Every heart a doorway

EVERY HEART A DOORWAY by Seanan McGuire <—– (full review) 4.5 stars

This book was such a surprise! I almost refused to read it due to my ability to connect with magical realism stories, but this one was just so interesting! I loved the characters, the world, the writing, and everything about it. Sadly it was too short though and I craved more information about everything involved. It needed to be longer!

Gentlemans guide to vice and virtue

THE GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO VICE AND VIRTUE by Mackenzie Lee <—– (full review) 4 stars

Yet another book I didn’t plan to read and ended up enjoying! Monty is one of my all time favourite people! He was access and extravagance to the core. And such a smart ass!! I loved his relationship with Percy and even his sister. Sadly the book felt a little confusing at time and it didn’t really know which direction it was going in. I enjoyed it, but the climate from start to finish was a little all over the place.

That time I loved you

THAT TIME I LOVED YOU by Carrianne Leung <—– (full review) 3.5 stars

This was such a refreshing story! We got multiple perspectives from adults and children as they settle into a brand new neighbourhood, where nothing is really as it seems. It was heartbreaking at time, funny at times, gut wrenching and eye opening. There was family drama mixed with deep secrets that no one wanted to be found. I really enjoyed this one!

Tyler Johnson was here

TYLER JOHNSON WAS HERE by Jay Coles

No, there isn’t a review for this book. I did enjoy it and the message it was getting across. But I did, however, have a few problems with the pacing of the story, the repetition, and the character development. I felt that this book needed just a few more rounds of editing to refine it a little more. I have some other thoughts on this book but, due to the highly sensitive topic, I don’t feel comfortable expressing my thoughts. I struggle with wording things properly and I’m fearful that I will unintentionally hurt someones feelings. But I will say that I am SO happy to have so much hype surrounding an own voices book from a POC author!

Obsidio

OBSIDIO by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff <—— (full review) 5 STARS!!!

So good! So freaking good! As terrified as I was going into it, I can now say that this is one of the best series finale’s i’ve ever read! The emotional roller coaster ride it took me on was a little intense – from page to page I was whipped back and forth from one emotion to another. I can’t express my love enough for this book!!!

Down among the sticks and bones

DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONES by Seanan Mcguire

I just finished this one last night so I haven’t posted the review just yet. Because of that, I won’t go into much detail here. I will say that I was a little underwhelmed though. Check out my review tomorrow to see why!

Arrow

That was the month of March! A very productive one filled with so many great books!!! If April is half as good as March was, I will be a happy bookworm. It looks like it might be even better! How is this possible? I can’t wait! Hope you all had a great month of March!

Until next time, happy reading!

  3. Looks like an AWESOME month!

My copy of Children of Blood and Bone arrived earlier this week so I’m going to read it ASAP. Looooved Obsidio. Pretty sure that book is the cause for my reading slump this past week. Actually, I’m simply sure it’s because of that book. I love the book but secretly hating it right now. The hate will last until I’m out of the slump, haha.

    Happy reading! 😀
