Weekly Wrap Up – March 19 – 25

Well. This is one of those weeks that just doesn’t go as planned. Work is chaos and I’ve been dealing with doctors appointments and a lot of stress. Point being, my head isn’t in the right place for books right now. I feel like my thoughts are occupied with so many things that I’m really struggling to focus on reading. And the book hangover from Obsidio is REAL! But, even though I’ve got a lot on my mind, I can always count on my fellow book lovers to pick me up. And of course my husband, who is my rock. I’m hoping to have some answers and maybe get back to normal soon. Enough about me, lets just get into my week in books!

BOOKS I’VE READ THIS WEEK:

Obsidio

OBSIDIO by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff <—– (full review)

This book was pure finale perfection!!!! I was a little afraid to read this for two reasons: 1 – this was the last book! I knew if I read it that it would be over. And 2 – these authors are fearless when it comes to putting their characters through hell and back….. this book was no exception!! It was absolutely incredible! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and my emotions were so frayed. Each page made me feel something different. I would go from one extreme to another. I felt exhausted after reading it! LOL!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

I’m just over halfway through Down Among The Sticks And Bones by Seanan McGuire and I’m loving it!! This series is just so unexpected and grabs ahold of your attention and won’t let go! I knew that this was a prequel of sorts, and I was nervous that we wouldn’t be following all of the characters that we met in book one. But I’m really enjoying the perspective of this one and it’s helping me understand the first book all that much more.

Children Of Blood And Bone has been everywhere. After reading just the first chapter I can say that I understand why! I immediately fell in love with her writing. She writes with such passion! Her descriptions are unexpected and conventional. Her voice is true unique! I’m only on the second chapter and will hold off until I’m done the Seanan McGuire book because this is the type of book you need to dedicate your full attention to!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY:

Even though this was out of my comfort zone, Top 5 contemporary/fiction ended up being one of my favourite topics! I’ve really been enjoying the contemporary and fiction novels I’ve read over the last few months, so reading the participants list really helped me find some books I would love to read in the future! Also this week, I announced the Topics for April. I’ve had quite a few people ask what the topics will be so I posted a little earlier. Hope to see you in April!

DISCUSSION:

Yet another favourite was the Discussion about hard topics that I had this week. There were so many amazing comments that made me think. One person said that topics like this can be damaging to teens which is something that I never thought of before. As much as I think it’s important for teens to be aware of what’s happening in the world, if there are too many descriptions then it could really be harmful. Thank you to all of you who commented! It was a really eye opening discussion. And so many of you captured my thoughts exactly but in better words lol.

BOOK TAG:

This week I was tagged to do the Spring Cleaning book tag. It initially looked easy but as I  was answering the questions I found some of them to be more difficult than I assumed! Either way it was a really fun tag and timed just perfectly for me!

Arrow

All in all, it was a great reading week. But in the coming weeks it might be a struggle as I’m dealing with health issues. I’m going to be honest, my anxiety has been winning over the last few days. But this blog and community are the two things that keep me focused on the positive. I may be late with posts or miss a day or two due to the appointments until I can get everything figured out, but I will try to keep my routine going as it’s something positive for me to focus on. If any of you out there deal with anxiety disorder, then you know that even the smallest of things can take over your thoughts and bring them back to a dark and scary place. I know that rationally, I shouldn’t worry. But my irrational anxiety brain says panic! I hope to explain more as soon as I know more myself. But for now, I will read, and blog, and talk to the best community on the planet! 🙂

Until next time, happy reading!

Shanah I really hop your anxiety will lessen. I know how it is to feel panicked. I had a burn out 26 years ago with panic attacks all the time. Now it’s much better but it can come back usually when I’m too tired and my brain is overworked. I would say rest, rest, rest. Walk outside if you can it helped clear up my head and read books to distract your mind. I’m praying for you. take care.

    1. Thanks. That means a lot. I’ve been pretty good at keeping my anxiety in check but lately it’s been hard. I’m thankful I have a great support system – including people like you 🙂

Hello Shanah! Oh boy I know what you mean about Obsidio! I am reading it right now (almost almost ALMOST done) and I am fearing for our MCs’ lives haha. The authors really do know how to put their characters through hell and back. I am so excited (but scared) to see how it ends :’)
