The Liebster Award

Long time no tag/award! I honestly can’t remember the last time I managed to fit one of these into the blog. I was very honoured to be nominated for this, as well as I really liked the questions, so I figured this would be fun! Thanks so much to Elena at Lost In Words for the nomination!

1 – If there was a place where you could go to stop the world and get off it for a while and relax, where would you go? What would it be like? What would be there and what would you do there?

I’m not sure that I would have to leave the world to escape (though space or another planet would be cool!). I’m totally fine with Fiji……. basically any place with a secluded beach and a little hut to live in. I would do NOTHING and it would be glorious! lol. Play in the water, lay on the beach, build sandcastles, drink (a lot) and just enjoy the time away.

2 – What is one of your best memories from your life so far? (it doesn’t have to be related to books or reading, but it can be)

I don’t know how to answer this! There are just so many! I think that the best memories for me are the ones where I’m laughing and smiling with my kids, husband, and parents. Those little moments of happiness and love are everything to me!

3 – When you read do you picture the events of the book as images or like a film playing inside your head?

Yes! I have a very vivid imagination and I typically see books playing inside my head like a movie. Weird thing is, if the character is described as being one way and I don’t like it, I will change the character completely to suit what I think it should be!! Dialogue I don’t really picture, but specific scenes I do.

4 – Do you ever find that there is either a character or a setting (or both) in a book that you just couldn’t picture in your head? If so, what book and what character/setting?

KAZ from Six of Crows! I was told over and over what he looked like, how old he was, etc.  but I didn’t like her description. I couldn’t picture him as a young person! It just didn’t feel right! I pictured him more as a man in his 30’s, rough and scruffy, dressed in browns and blacks, and sly……. I like my version better. I strongly feel that Six of Crows would have done better as an adult book!! It was good as is, but it could have been so much better if they were in their 30’s… just saying…. and I know i’m not the only one that feels this way! I need her to write some adult fantasy! I think she would be elevated to epic genius levels as an author!

5 – What imaginary world from a book would you most want to live in? (if not for life then just for a holiday)

My answer for this is always Hogwarts. I want to hang out at Hogwarts in the worst way!!! Also Diagon Alley 🙂 But to say something aside from my usual, I’m going with Warcross. I would love to visit Japan and I think that any world where virtual reality plays such a big part in your day to day life would be interesting to see. I wouldn’t want to live there, just a vacation. But its just so different and crazy!

6 – If you could read in another language, what language would it be?

Spanish!! I love the Spanish language. I can speak and read enough to get by, but I am not fluent in any way. I hope to be one day! That would be amazing!

7 – Which fictional character would you like to be friends with and why?

Oh so many!!! I would love to be friends with Jazz Bashara from Artemis, Zusana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Iko from Cinder, or Mia from Nevernight. Most of these characters could either kill me or get me into trouble, but they’re so much fun!

8 – What books do you think will become known as “classics” in the future?

This was actually a top 5 tuesday topic a little while ago. HERE is that post where I listed the 5 books I considered to be modern classics.

9 – What is your strangest book related obsession? (If you don’t have one then what is the strangest book related fact about you?)

I’ve mentioned this before but I don’t mention it often for fear of being yelled at…….. I ALWAYS check the number of pages a book has before I start it……. and while i’m at the back of the book I read the last sentence…….. just the last sentence I promise!! No more than that because I don’t want to be spoiled. I haven’t spoiled myself yet and I can tell you if I’m going to like the book or not with almost complete accuracy after reading that sentence. I know, I’m weird…….

10 – If you had one extra day in a week that nobody knew about, what would you do with it?

OMG I love this question!! First of all, I would sleep. I would sleep as long as I wanted, nap when I wanted, and go to bed when I wanted. This would be amazing! Obviously I would read too. But I think that I would also prep meals for the week because it would make the rest of my week so much easier….. but then people might find out about my extra day so maybe not. Hmmmm I might draw or paint, go on a road trip…. so many possibilities!!!

11 – Name 5 books that you think should be taught and studied in schools and be a part of the curriculum. And do you think this would make students enjoy English more and make them want to read more books? (since the books would be more current and less classics)

I 100% agree that so many people would fall in love with reading if they weren’t forced to read the boring crap they make you read in high school. I will say that there were a few that I loved in school (The Great Gatsby, and 1984) but for the most part I was bored to tears and couldn’t relate to them. If there were more current issues/topics, updated writing styles, and just ANYTHING more modern, then maybe more people would realize that books are cool! There are some books that have a good lesson behind them, but a few exciting fantasy and science fiction wouldn’t hurt! Here are some that I think might have been cool to read in school:
