January 2018 Book Haul!

Well….. it’s another big one! Some of the books that I ordered using Christmas money/gift cards came in, followed by a few ARC’s that I lost my mind over! February will be another big month as there are even more pre-orders coming in, then after that I hope things calm down. As I said in my Beat The Backlist Challenge post, I need to knock down some of the books that I own and am still dying to read. All these amazing new releases are NOT helping that goal in any way! But still, I’m not mad about it! LOL! I got 8 books this month and I’ve already finished 2 of them, so that’s a pretty good thing. 2 of these are ARC’s that don’t release until May and July so I can’t read them soon anyway! So here are the books I hauled this month!

ARC’S I GOT THIS MONTH:

THE HAZEL WOOD by Melissa Albert

I’ve already read this one (click here for review) and gave it 4.5 stars. I REALLY enjoyed this one! It was a great mix of real life, magical realism, and fantasy. The world building was fantastic and I’m in love with how dark these fairy tales were! I do wish we would have gotten more of the actual fairy tales but I have a feeling they will come into play as the series continues. (thank-you Raincoast Canada!)

SHADOWSONG by S Jae-Jones

Yet another book that I’ve already finished this month but sadly it didn’t meet my expectations (click for full review) It seemed to be missing all of the things that I fell in love with in book one. I wanted so badly to love it. It was ok, but not as good as book one. But I will say that I absolutely LOVE her writing style and can’t wait for more from her! (Thank you Raincoast Canada!)

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren James

I’ve had this book on my Chapters Indigo wish list for MONTHS. I kept looking at it with crossed fingers hoping that the release date would move up. Sadly, it stayed the same, but thankfully I got an ARC! This book was released last year in the UK and everyone that’s read it (mainly Justine at I Should Read That) fell in love with it and went cuckoo banana’s over it! I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about!!! (Thank you Harper Collins Canada!)

LIFEL1K3 by Jay Kristoff

I literally cried when this book came in the mail! My mail man (who i’ve known personally for many years) was witness to my high pitched girl scream. Yup, I couldn’t even hold it in until he left my house. Jay Kristoff is my all time favourite author. The man is a writing genius! And any book that has a character with the name of Lemon Fresh just begs for a 5 star rating!!! I can’t publish my review until closer to the release date (end of May) but I know for a fact that I can’t hold off on reading it until then! It’s burning my bookworm hands! (Thank you Penguin Random House!)

BOOKS I BOUGHT WITH CHRISTMAS MONEY:

CAREER OF EVIL by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling)

I wasn’t going to pick this one up but it was on sale for 4$ for the hardcover. I already own the first two in the series (but haven’t read them yet…. oops!) so I’m just collecting them at this point. lol

EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU by Celeste Ng

I recently picked up Celeste Ng’s newest book, Little Fires Everywhere, and I have a feeling it will be a 5 star read for me. I remember seeing Everything I Never Told you literally everywhere when it first came out but I was convinced I wouldn’t like it. I’ve been pushing myself out of my comfort zone a bit and have really been enjoying adult fiction so I decided to finally pick it up.

THE MARROW THIEVES by Cherie Dimaline

I am SO excited for this book and for so many reasons. One, it’s written by a Canadian, two, it follows native characters and culture which I have grown up with, and three, it comes highly recommended by La La from Books and LaLa. Also this book just sounds so different, scary, unique, and interesting. It’s all the things!

SAGA VOLUME 8 by Fiona Staples and Brian K Vaughn

And finally, volume 8 of Saga! I wasn’t going to pick this one up until I completed my series reread, but I saw it in the bookstore and figured I would get it so that I had it waiting for me. And look at that cover! Alana with a cowboy hat sitting on a rainbow zebra!!!! Can’t wait to get to this!!

Arrow

janhaultwitter

This was a decent book haul but I feel zero guilt as I didn’t spend a single penny (Canada doesn’t even have pennies anymore did you know that?! I should really stop using the word penny if we no longer have that currency!) of my personal money. Every book that entered my home was either an ARC or bought using gift cards and christmas money. A final thank you to Raincoast Books, Harper Collins, and Penguin Random House for sending me books this month!! It means the world to me to work with you 🙂

What did you get this month?

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. Lol weird random fact. They got rid of them last year. We can still accept them but they’re not circulated any more. It’s weird 😂

    1. 😂 that’s too funny! I live in a very small town and the two postal workers that deliver to my house I went to high school with both of them. So they already know of my obsession!

    1. Heartbreak in Saga?!? I’ve stayed away from all reviews and spoilers but I don’t like the sounds of that. Maybe I’ll do my reread quicker to get to it!! I really liked volume 7. It was one of my favourites actually!
