Weekly Wrap Up – Jan 22 – 28

The word of the week today is productive! I was super busy with all things bookish and I managed to accomplish way more than expected! The thing is, everything was so positive and exciting so none of it felt overwhelming. It wasn’t until I started writing this post that I realized just how much happened! Though I woke up with a massive headache on Saturday so maybe it took more out of me than expected. This may be a long post so I’m jumping right in!

That’s right! I managed to finish another 3 books this week!! When I said I planned to read 100 books this year I meant it! I thought that I would need to push my desire to read more but it’s just come easy – so far. I hope the rest of the year continues in this way! I think part of it has to do with the fact that I’m letting go of some of the guilt of spending time on myself. I do so much for everyone else and I would leave my need till last. I’m still taking care of everyone else but I’m making ME a priority and I’ve noticed a huge change in my stress levels. Whatever I’m doing is working so we’re going with it!

First I finished THE HAZEL WOOD by Melissa Albert (click for full review) and I LOVED it! It was a bit different than I was expecting but not in a bad way. I went into it expecting a full on fantasy but there was a lot of contemporary/magical realism in the beginning. But it was dark, descriptive, and I really enjoyed it!

Keeping with the streak of amazing books this week, I finished WAKING GODS by Sylvain Neuvel (click for full review). This is book 2 in the Themis files and blew my expectations out of the water! I liked book one but this one was a serious step up. There was so much action, politics, science, plot twists – all the things! Best part is that I listened to it in audiobook form which was a full cast and it made the whole experience even better!!

Lastly, keeping with my reread of Saga, I finished volume 3. Only a few weeks left until I can finally get to the newly released volume 8!

For right now I only have one book chosen. This book is really terrifying if you think about it too long. All the words you speak and actions you made cost money, allowing people to go into debt with their words and movements. If this were real I would need to be a 10x billionaire because I can talk A LOT! I’m over 100 pages into it so far and I have VERY mixed feelings about it. Certain elements are wonderful, but certain things are leaving me hanging and confused. I won’t be able to form a true option until I finish it as there’s so many unanswered questions right now. I’ll hopefully finish it soon and let you know how I feel about it.

This weeks topic was the Top 5 books I don’t talk about enough – and I really loved doing this topic! Not only did I get to talk about books that I don’t put in the spotlight enough, but I got to see the participants lists and added so many books to my wish list! I could feel all your passion and excitement for these books and I want to read them all! Next week is your top 5 intimidating books. I left it open to be books that you’ve read or books that are on your TBR. The topics for February will be posted this Monday!

I shocked the world by doing a discussion post about whether or not you need to apologize for not liking a book. It’s been ages since i’ve done a discussion post and I really enjoyed talking to the bookish community and hearing what you had to say. I actually have another discussion post scheduled for next week! I’m not promising this will be a thing, but I’m trying!

My personal goal this year is to knock down my backlisted books sitting on my shelf. The number of unread books on my shelf is embarrassing! So I’ve started my own little beat the backlist challenge where I’m holding myself accountable to read the books I’ve been excited to read for SO long.

If you follow me on Twitter then you may have caught my post where I was losing my mind. I had emailed Penguin Random House requesting a book and wasn’t sure that I would be approved. It was for a new release of my favourite author on the whole entire planet…. and if I got it then I was going to faint or cry. I opened the email, saw that it was approved, and immediately cried. It took me 15 minutes to reply because my hands were shaking too hard to hit the right buttons. That ARC is…………

Lifel1k3 arc

See why I lost my mind?! Jay Kristoff is my obsession and his writing is my whole world! And as soon as I opened the book the quote in the beginning is from one of my all time favourite bands/music artists…… my obsession with Jay Kristoff is becoming unhealthy. Seriously, I’m afraid I might get an international restriction order soon.

I’ve done something that I’m still not comfortable with quite yet. The buy me a coffee button is now live on my page and linked to a ko-fi account. I’ve seen many bloggers with this on their site, but I was too afraid that people would feel uncomfortable or pressured to donate. But as the blog gets bigger and I’m working harder to keep this thing going, I figured it can’t hurt. There’s no pressure to this whatsoever. If you like my content and want to support me then I would appreciate it, but if you don’t donate, I won’t be preparing voodoo dolls with your blog name on it! LOL! Like I said, I’m still uncomfortable with this. I feel like I’ve got it there asking for a hand out. But that’s not why it’s there. If donations come in then it will be put to use in purchasing a plan with WordPress to make changes to my site and allow me to grow. Not sure that I’ll leave it there though…..

So that was my week! Looking back at it now I can’t believe so much happened! And even more is happening over the next few weeks. This is going to be a very bookish year I think!! Hope your week was great!

Until next time, happy reading!

You should never feel bad about the Kofi button, it’s completely okay – they’re targetted at creators and that’s what you are.
I love how you described The Hazel Wood, I can’t wait to read it!

I understand where you are coming from about the KoFi button but don’t dwell on it. It’s there to help especially if someone wants to support.
    Keep up your amazing work!

It sounds like you had such a productive week! I’m on holidays and I wasn’t as productive as you. I’m going to use you as inspiration for this week, my reading and writing are going to be a priority!

  7. It sounds like you had a very productive week that week. Did you enjoy the Jay Kristoff book? How do you find All Rights Resevered, it’s such a different concept which is scary if came true? I love this wrap up post and the way you have layed it out.

    1. It’s going to be a while before I get to the Jay Kristoff book. It’s not set to be published until the end of May and the publisher requests the reviews publish close to that date. I can’t wait though!!
All Rights Reserved wasn’t what I expected unfortunately. The premise was fantastic (and scary if it were real) but the execution lacked detail, information and emotion for me. I wanted so much more

  8. Oh wow I didn’t realise the release date was so far away. Yes it is very exciting. Oh that’s a shame. I will let you know what I thought of it when I finally get around to reading it. 😂👍🏻😃
