Top 5 Rewind – books I don’t talk about enough!

At the end of 2017 I looked through some of my book tags and lists and realized that I talk about some of the same books a lot. It’s to be expected when there are books that you love and want to talk about! And a lot of the questions in tags out there are geared to get the same answers out of us. But when I look at my shelves there are so many that I’ve loved and I feel bad that I don’t mention them as much as I should. Well, today is the day to put those books in the spotlight!

But before I do that, I need to address something for my participants. I have an appointment today that is stressful, and will take up the majority of my day (nothing too serious so no worries). I will try my best to keep up with adding everyone to the participants list, but I possibly won’t be able to comment on every one of your posts. I will see your posts and add you to the list, but if I don’t comment it’s only due to lack of time.

Here are the top 5 books that I’ve read in the past and need to talk about more!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in January – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

The girl in 6E

THE GIRL IN 6E by A.R. Torre
Jumping right out of the gate with a crazy one! As you might be able to tell by the cover, this is not even close to being a YA novel – it’s about as adult as you can get. Our main character Deanna has locked herself in her apartment for years. If she can’t get to people then she can’t kill them. Since her childhood she has had murderous tendencies and to keep that in check she keeps herself away from temptation. But to keep herself financially stable, she takes the only job she can being stuck in her apartment. And that is being an online sex cam girl. But something happens that draws her back into society and that’s possibly saving the life of another girl. But this book isn’t really as simple as it seems! She strikes up a friendship with her delivery man, and she may be the only one to stop a killer like herself. This book was full of action, sexy times, shocking twists, romance, mystery, and thrills. It was really wonderful!

The wrath and the dawn

THE WRATH AND THE DAWN by Renée Ahdieh
I never intended to read this book. When it was first released I read the synopsis and I wasn’t that drawn into it. It sounded like it would be just an ok read and possibly like something I’ve read before. Not to mention I got immediate insta-love vibes. But a friend who I trusted their review said that I needed to read it ASAP so I gave it a shot. For those of you who might not know, this book is about a feisty girl who offers herself to be the next bride of the Caliph of Khorasan, even though she knows that he marries a new girl every night and come morning she is dead. One of his past brides was her best friend, and she takes this opportunity to attempt to get her revenge. But morning comes, and she somehow survives. Yes there is (kinda) insta-love, and yes this wasn’t the most original book on the planet. But it was SO beautifully written and filled with such engaging characters I just couldn’t stop reading!! This is possibly one of my favourite books of all time!

the-long-way-to-a-small-angry-planet

THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL ANGRY PLANET by Becky Chambers
In all fairness, I do talk about this book quite a bit. But not as much as I wish I could! I went through a lot to get this book in my hands. I searched for months to find it in bookstores and it turned out that it was no longer published in Canada. I ended up ordering it from halfway across the world and luckily it was worth the trouble. I would explain what this book is about but it’s kind of impossible (if you’ve read this you’ll understand!). It’s one of those books that is VERY character driven but it’s also huge in the world and character building department as well. The space world is huge, the science was a little more in depth than I had ever read to that point – and I loved every minute of  it!! I need to get to the sequel of this soon!!

highly-illogical-behaviour

HIGHLY ILLOGICAL BEHAVIOR by John Corey Whaley
This is possibly one of my favourite contemporaries of all time. We follow a 16 year old boy who hasn’t left his house in over 3 years due to his battle with agoraphobia. He’s totally fine with his life the way that it is! When a girl from school decides to reach out to him for the purposes of writing a paper, she suddenly thinks that she can make headway and get him outside. This is a book filled with so many emotions. It covers a very serious illness in a heartbreaking and hilarious way. I laughed the whole way through while at the same time crying because I have a friend with this very illness who I see only a few times a year. It was very well done!!

the-name-of-the-wind

THE NAME OF THE WIND by Patrick Rothfuss
This is yet another book that I have mentioned, but honestly not as much as I probably should. High fantasy is one of my all time favourite genres and this was one of the first adult fantasies that I absolutely fell in love with. This is a very complicated story as we follow the main character, Kvothe, from his childhood, through travelling in a troupe with his parents, got to a magic school, and patiently awaiting to find out why he’s now called the “kingkiller”. Book three seems to be nowhere in sight yet, but that doesn’t stop me from loving this first book! The magic school is amazing, Kvothe is one of my favourite stupid/brilliant/snarky characters, and I love the mystery of the magic in this world!

What would you rate the romance in it? I prefer to avoid books where romance is the main theme and there are a lot of graphic scenes beyond kissing.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. If I remember correctly there isn’t even kissing in this one. There’s the beginning of a romance but not really. So you’re safe with this one!

I’ve been on the fence about Wrath and the Dawn for a while. I see so many good reviews, but something about it makes me feel like it won’t be for me. You’ve definitely made me more interested, that’s for sure.

    1. That’s how I felt too. Like it would somehow be too immature or basic. That sounds harsh but it’s what I assumed 😂 it far exceeded my expectations!

That’s exactly what I assumed! (Plus, I love the original covers, and now my bookstore only has the new cover. I’m such a cover snob.)

    1. It’s was ok. Dentist appointment but it wasn’t fun. The thyroid cancer screwed with my vitamin D and calcium and made my teeth a mess no matter how hard I tried. But it’s fixable so I can handle that I guess 🙂
