Top 5 series I want to start this year!

Like it or not, series are here to stay. Especially over the last few years everything seems to be a part of a series. Some people love it and some don’t. Luckily, I’m on the side that loves them! It gives me more time in the worlds that I love with the characters that I love, even if the pain of waiting for the next instalment threatens to kill me.

As I said, I love a good series, however, I’m very picky in how I consume them! I usually hold off until there are at least 2 books released. I have ZERO patience when it comes to waiting for a sequel so I will sometimes hold off on starting a series – but not always. I also try to only have a few series on the go. If I’m current with a series it doesn’t count because I’m going to have to wait for the next book anyways. But if I own the entire series, I won’t pick up book 1 in another series until I’ve marathon’d the one I’m currently reading. I hope that’s not confusing but I’m a little confused just writing it! Point is, I like series! And here are the top 5 that I want to start this year!!

THE MISTBORN TRILOGY

If there is only one new series that I could start this year – this is it!!! I’ve been promising myself that I was going to start it for 3-4 years. When I started watching YouTube, this was the book/series that was most popular, and not a single person had anything bad to say about it! I know I’m going to love it, but I’ve been holding off because it never feels like the right time. I need to stop making excuses and read it!!!

THE RED RISING TRILOGY

I feel so much guilt over this one. This is probably the #1 series that has been recommended to me the most. I have a friend that literally threatened physical harm if I didn’t read it soon. Fearing for my life, I immediately bought the first book, and it’s sat on my shelf ever since…….. she hasn’t killed me in my sleep yet, but I think it’s coming. I now sleep with one eye open……. It will happen this year!!

THE FIREBIRD TRILOGY

This is one that I need to be put in the box of shame for! I never intended to pick up this series. I loved the covers (how could you not?!) but I worried that I wouldn’t like them. My bookish sister Robin (The Other Weasley over on Books Amino) told me that it was amazing so I picked it up. I trust her opinion above all others! I even started the first book last year! I got two chapters in and LOVED it…… but had to set it down because of an ARC and just never went back to it…… see, box of shame!

THE GENTLEMAN BASTARD SERIES

This series is the newest on my radar (and also recommended to me by my bookish sister Robin…… she’s my enabler and this is a problem! LOL!!) she lured me into this one by sending me the most hilarious quotes i’ve ever heard! The humour in this book was just too much to resist! I can not wait for this one!!!

THE LOTUS WARS TRILOGY

If you’ve visited my blog AT ALL then I’m sure you don’t need an explanation as to why this makes my list! My obsession, my favourite author, the love of my bookish life (ok, too far?) Jay Kristoff!! I’ve read and loved the Illuminae series and the Nevernight series, and hope that this one is more of the same. I adore his writing style, worlds, and characters! He is the epitome of bad ass and I need more!!!!

This is a big undertaking – getting to all of these books! There are 5 more series that are sitting on my shelf that I really want to get to but, being realistic, I might not even get to all of these. But 2018 is the year my goals are big, so these are getting read this year!!! What series do you hope to start this year?
