Top 5 books on my 2018 bucket list

We all say it when we’re talking about books we’re excited to read – “I’ll get to it soon”. But then comes a shiny new book and it screams “READ ME NOW!” and I set the books I was planning to read aside in order to give the new book some attention. Well, these are the top 5 books that, come hell or high water, I WILL get to in 2018!! If I don’t, I am willing to sacrifice my first born child…… alright maybe not that dramatic…… I’ll be willing to sacrifice my official bookworm card! There, that’s better. These are books that I won’t be reading within the next few weeks, they’re also not new releases, but they ARE books that I am desperate to get to and I WILL read them before the end of the year!! I tried to choose mainly standalone’s as next weeks topic is dedicated to series that I want to start this year. Here we go!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in January – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

The Secret History

This book fell onto my radar recently and I haven’t been able to shake it from my brain! I heard one person talking about it passionately and then, next thing I know, I’ve been seeing it everywhere! And when I do see it, it’s usually on a list of top favourite books. I’ve been dying to read a Donna Tartt book recently and this one has come so highly recommended, I think it will be the first I choose!

Burial Rites

Burial rites was very hyped a few years ago and I actually managed to pick up a brand new hardcover for 4$. I’m still a little confused on if it’s a mystery, historical fiction, thriller, literary fiction or what. It has a mix of a lot of things. But I think that I want to go into it blindly so I don’t know what to expect. I like book surprises!

all the light we cannot see

All the Light We Cannot See is a book that I have placed on my immediate TBR countless times. I am very much looking forward to it and keep on intending to pick it up and then I just never do. I’ve heard such amazing things about this book and have been desperate to get back into some WWII historical fiction. It’s going to happen this year – I promise!

Uprooted

One of the most stunning covers I’ve ever seen, Uprooted by Naomi Novik is one that I need to get to in 2018! This is a book that I bought within a few weeks of its release in May of 2015 and still haven’t read it! I don’t know why either – it basically has everything I could want in a story! I think that I was scared off with a bit of a fantasy slump over the last little while. But thankfully that slump is over so I hope to make this one happen soon!

The Unseen World

Lastly we have The Unseen World by Liz Moore. I never would have found out about this book if it wasn’t for YouTube’s own Peruse Project and Squibbles Reads. These ladies talk this book up SO much! You can almost physically feel their excitement through the screen every time they get to talk about this book. I waited so long to get this book too as the cost for the hardcover was over 40$ and the paperback was 35$ or so. Too rich for my cheap ass! So I waited and got it at a great price through book depository a few months ago. Strangely enough I tend to hold off on books I think I’ll absolutely love. It’s as if I’m saving them for something. Time to get over it and just read it and love it already!

So there they are – the 5 book that you can absolutely hold me accountable if they don’t get read in 2018! Like I said in my description of The Unseen World, I really need to stop holding back the books that I think I’ll really love and just read them. No more saving my expected 5 star reads for a rainy day!

What books do you desperately need to read this year?

Until next time, happy reading!

It’s weird, but I think I do the same thing with books I think I’m going to love. I feel like I need to be in just the right mindset to enjoy it to it’s fullest and I’m always nervous I’ll ruin the experience if I’m super busy, or if I have other reviews to write still, etc.

    1. Oh thank goodness I’m not the only one! It really makes no sense to hold off on reading books you know you’ll love but I still do it. I don’t think we really ever stop being busy so I just need to stop waiting and read it! But hearing you say that makes me feel less crazy 😂

I loved the Secret History, so glad you have it on your list. For some reason, I couldn’t get into the Goldfinch though, so I think you picked a good one to start into Donna Tartt

    1. This makes me feel better to hear. I was wondering which one of hers I should start with. It’s also the shorter of the two so, there’s that 😂

It’s crazy, but super awesome! I just wish there was some way for you to easier keep track of everyone. I feel like it’s only going to get harder on you. 🙂

        1. It is getting harder…… it takes an insane amount of time to get through all these posts, read them, comment and like, and then link to the main post. But it’s worth it! I do enjoy doing this and look forward to every Tuesday! I do wish there was an easier way but I’ve gotten used to it. If it gets much bigger though….. I might need a clone!

I’ve read All the Light We Cannot See and Uprooted, and they are both really great books! Uprooted maybe was a bit slow for my liking, but I adored the main character and the world. I hope you’ll like them as well😊.

    1. I think I read a few chapters of this a few years ago and it was slow. I had something else I had to read so I put it down and never went back to it. I’ll push through this year though 🙂

I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz around The Unseen World and it was one a lot of booktubers favorite books of the year. I think I might pick it up too so I”ll actually read an adult book for once haha 😛

  18. Uprooted is on my 2018 bucket list, too! It’s been sitting on my shelf for MONTHS now, but I’m hoping to actually pick it up and read it in February… Or March. But soon, definitely soon!

    1. I probably won’t get to it until the summer time. I hope you can manage to get to it in Feb or March. I’ll keep an eye out for a review. Maybe it will push me to read it sooner!

I’ve recommended The Secret History to sooo many people so YES to that one, The Goldfinch is another one I’m currently reading by Donna Tartt, and while it’s probably not as good as The Secret History, it’s definitely a great read! xx

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Good to know! I’m a little nervous about The Goldfinch. It’s really long and people aren’t liking it as much it seems. I’m glad you’re enjoying it though! It’s encouraging 🙂

  20. Ah, I’ve been trying to read The Secret History, but will I ever actually read it? Who knows? 😂 I tried to read Uprooted years back but just couldn’t get into it at all, but hopefully you’ll like it much better than me! 😄

    1. Uprooted has gotten so many mixed reviews. People seem to either love it or hate it. So I guess I have a 50/50 chance 😂
I hope you can get to The Secret History at some point!

  21. Burial Rites has been on my TBR for what feels like forever, so I’m hoping it turns out to be as good as it sounds!

Also ‘A Secret History’ sounds SO interesting!

Hopefully you’ll get round to reading these books at some point this year 😀

    1. Maybe if I can manage to get to them soon, the reviews will push you to read it sooner! It’s a short book so I really have no clue why I haven’t read it yet!!

Wow, some great choices in there that I’m sure you’ll love! All the Light is one of my all-time favourite books, one of those novels you thrust at all of your friends because it’s SO GOOD that everyone has to read it and feel all of the feelings with you. I really loved Burial Rites and The Secret History as well. I hope you love these as much as I did!
