Weekly Wrap Up – Jan 1 – 7

Week one of 2018 is done! And what a week it was! I’m so glad to be back! Though I have to say that taking a break from the blog was the best decision I’ve ever made. Things were just so crazy I couldn’t keep up with the kids and all of their new things! But it was so much fun (and there may be a new addiction in the house called Xbox One!) Everything is all cleaned up from the holidays so it’s back to reality and back to books to keep me sane! I’m glad to say that the year has started off on the right foot 🙂

BOOKS I’VE READ THIS WEEK:

That right – I read FOUR books this week!!!!!!!! Ok one of them was a graphic novel but it still counts on Goodreads. And two of them were less than 200 pages. But still I finished all four within 4 days. See what I meant that I was starting my reading year off on a good foot? I hope that I can keep ahead of my Goodreads challenge but really, in reality, this may be the last time I’m ahead! Because of my break with blogging, all of my posts were pushed back a week so all reviews will be up next week. I will catch up on everything soon enough.

So my first official book of 2018 was EXIT WEST by Mohsin Hamid and it was just wonderful! It was one that I wanted to get to in 2017 but it never happened. This is a short book but it packs one hell of a punch! Review will be coming on January 11th

Next was UNEARTHED by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2018 and…… well….. I’m a little underwhelmed. I only just finished this one in the last day or two and I’m still trying to put together what I really thought of it. Review will be posted tomorrow.

Next is SAGA VOLUME 1 which is a reread. Volume 8 was recently released and before I pick it up I’m going to be doing a series reread – so be prepared to see these covers a lot over the next few weeks. I won’t be posting a review as it’s a reread and I’ve already reviewed volume 7.

Lastly is NIGHT OF CAKE AND PUPPETS by Laini Taylor and….. it was the most adorable book I’ve ever read in my whole life! I started it planning to read the first chapter then, about an hour later, I realized that I had finished it already!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

Continuing with the Saga reread, I plan to pick up volume 2 at some point this week. I’ve also started Wintersong and it started off pretty good. I’m only about 50 pages in so it’s too early to tell. I have to have this finished soon so that I can read my ARC of Shadowsong, which is being released on February 6th.

 OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY

It’s back!! Topics for January have been announced and I’m so excited for 2018!! And I wanted to send a thank you out to Joe at J.W. END/BEGINNING OF THE YEAR LISTS!

The most exciting time for blogs and book tube is the end/beginning of the year. So many lists of great books, disappointing books, goals, and more! Here are a few of my lists:

Arrow

That’s everything that’s happened in my first week back to blogging. It’s going to take me some time to get back into my usual routine and catch up on all of my book reviews and blog features. Everything feels a little wonky right now, but I’ll catch up eventually.

I hope that you all had an amazing first week of 2018!!

Until next time, happy reading!

  1. OOOH! I hope you enjoy winter song. I LOVE THE TITLE FOR THE NIGHT OF CAKE & PUPPETS and I do want to read it someday I guess! I’ve been hearing “meh” things about Unearthed so now I’m being cautious.

    1. Unearthed was ok, and I can see how some people will fall head over heels in love, but it felt like something was missing the whole time. I don’t think I was the right audience for it

        1. It’s fun but….. it’s Microsoft. I’m sooooo not good with Microsoft so setting up accounts and getting it to work was fun….. 🤬

  6. Great job!! I only read one book this week, but that’s not too bad. 🙂 I’m happy with it. I’m hoping to read a lot more this upcoming week. 😀 I’ve been wanting to buy Saga for a while now I’ve heard it’s really good

    1. I usually only read 1-2 books a week so this is rare! Saga is interesting I’ll say that 😂 very verbally and sexually explicit so prepare yourself

  8. I’ve seen Exit West floating around for a while now but I still have no idea what it’s about, so I’ll definitely be checking out your review. I’m excited about the new Laini Taylor book as I just started reading her work this summer. I’ve only gotten through Strange the Dreamer but I’m already in love with her work.

    1. Exit West is about 2 people who start to form a relationship and the country they live in grows hostile. They’re forced to make some hard decisions about staying or leaving and how much they’re willing to lose. This book tackled so much having to do with war, loss, acceptance, loyalty, finding home, and so much more. It was really good 🙂
Strange the Dreamer is my favourite of all her books! It was just soooo beautiful!

Woo! I’m glad you enjoyed The Night of Cake and Puppets so much. Now I’m even more excited to read it. 😀
Can’t wait to hear what you think of the new volume of Saga when you get to it. 🙂 I can’t blame you for re-reading the series beforehand. So much stuff goes down in each of the volumes, plus it’s just a fun series to re-read. 🙂

    1. A reread is necessary. Like you said, so much has happened. Especially in the last 2 volumes. I’m struggling to remember it all!
Night of Cake and Puppets was just wonderful!!!! I hope you enjoy!
