Top 5 Books I Want For Christmas!

Santa’s coming!!!! EEEK! I’m so close to FINALLY being done and ready for christmas. Little by little, the stress is starting to fall away and I can hopefully enjoy christmas. The amount of stress I’ve had to deal with this December has been unreal! But I’m almost ready and I can’t wait to see my kids on Christmas morning! So in honour of Santa’s pending arrival, I wanted to take the last T5T topic of the year to talk about the books I hope to get for Christmas – And I also want to see what you’re hoping to get too!

Thirteen Rising

THIRTEEN RISING by Romina Russell

This is the fourth and final book in the Zodiac series and I need to know what happens! I read the first three books in the series over a 3 month period and have become completely obsessed with the world and all its complexities. Anything related to zodiac signs is amazing, but to have an entire space system with a planet (or cluster of planets) all ruled by a different zodiac sign is genius! And each planet is so very different. Everything from the people, the plants strengths, and their technology. If you love science fiction and amazing world building – this is a must!

The premise of this one sounds far too interesting to pass up! Every word and gesture is trademarked, copyrighted, and owned. So all the words you speak are worth money – every time you nod your head, you owe money – even names of your children are purchased! Everything you do can put you into a debt you can’t crawl out of. When a friend of hers chooses to commit suicide instead of dealing with the crippling debt his family owes, the main character decides to stay silent and the outcomes could cause more problems than she imagines. Does that not sound amazing?! I’ve heard some conflicting reviews on this one but the premise hooked me completely and I can’t wait to read it!!

Horrorstor

HORRORSTOR by Grady Hendrix

I’m sure you all remember my obsession with My Best Friends Exorcism by the same author…. I talked about it enough!! LOL! I was initially obsessed with the cover but I didn’t expect much from the writing. It seemed like just an ok idea. But once I read it I was happy to announce that the inside matched the outside! His books have the theme of a parody story – something that is meant to be somewhat funny and not taken seriously. But before you know it you’re completely enveloped in the story and forgot that you thought it wasn’t going to be good. Turns out its amazing! If you can’t tell, this is a take on a mystery that plays out in an Ikea type store. Employees show up to work and find the store trashed. To solve the mystery, they offer to work a night shift when the store is closed. It’s haunted Ikea people – and I’m all in for it!

The Power

THE POWER by Naomi Alderman

This one has come highly recommended to me by a few people that I trust completely. They fell in love with it and said it was far better than they could have imagined. When I read the synopsis a while back, the premise sounded great but I was afraid of the execution. I’ve been assured that there’s nothing to worry about! I don’t know a whole lot about this one to be honest. All I know is that suddenly women have the power to inflict pain and death with their hands……. weird, vague, powerful, and interesting!

Sing unburied sing

SING UNBURIED SING by Jesmyn Ward

I know that I’m not going to do this book justice by explaining it so I will paste the Goodreads synopsis here. I’ve read quite a few really impacting books this year and I need more. I’ve read a few reviews of this one and they fell in love with it. Here’s what it’s about:

Jojo is thirteen years old and trying to understand what it means to be a man. His mother, Leonie, is in constant conflict with herself and those around her. She is black and her children’s father is white. Embattled in ways that reflect the brutal reality of her circumstances, she wants to be a better mother, but can’t put her children above her own needs, especially her drug use.

When the children’s father is released from prison, Leonie packs her kids and a friend into her car and drives north to the heart of Mississippi and Parchman Farm, the State Penitentiary. At Parchman, there is another boy, the ghost of a dead inmate who carries all of the ugly history of the South with him in his wandering. He too has something to teach Jojo about fathers and sons, about legacies, about violence, about love.

BONUS (because I’m having a hard time limiting this just to 5 books!)

Little fires everywhere

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE by Celeste Ng

This is an author that has been on my radar for a while now. Her other book (Everything I Never Told You) was everywhere last year. I wanted to pick it up but I was in such a fantasy mood I wasn’t read for it. But now, after months of hearing nothing but praise for this author, I think it’s time I figure out what all the fuss is about!

Arrow

TOP 5 TUESDAY PARTICIPANTS:

Arrow

This was a fun list to make and if I get these then I will be so excited! But honestly I don’t care what I get. It’s more important to me to see the smiles on my kids faces. Though, if I only got ONE thing this Christmas, it would be to get a Fairyloot subscription! I’m crossing my fingers to their breaking point!!

I also wanted to take a minute and thank each and every one of you who has participated over the last few months! When I started this over a year ago, I just wanted to make a list each week with different topics. It was only a personal thing. Then people started asking if they could join in. Sure! More the merrier! But I never imagined it would turn into what it has today. So a heart felt thanks to all of you who follow along with me on these crazy Tuesday’s!

The topics for January will be posted in the first week of 2018. I hope to see you then!

Until next time, happy reading!

Oooh I just read the synopsis for The Power and it sounds SO INTENSE. And if Margaret Atwood has a blurb on the cover, then you know it has to be good! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for joining in! I added you to the list this week. Because we are on different blogging platforms I may not get notifications – not sure how that works. If you link a specific post of mine and not just my main website address, it may send me a message telling me you linked a post to me. That’s the best way to make sure I see your posts 🙂
