Weekly Wrap Up – December 10 – 16

This week was so busy! Blogging and reading went surprisingly well this week! Work has picked up and I’ve been SOOOO busy, not to mention that there’s still a lot of preparations for Christmas! So I was a little shocked that I managed to finish as much as I did for reading and blogging. Next week though…. I think I’ll be playing things minute by minute!

BOOKS I’VE FINISHED THIS WEEK:

The bear and the nightengale

THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE by Katherine Arden
I really loved this one! It started off really strong and then slowed down painfully in the middle. I was honestly a little afraid that I wasn’t going to enjoy it…. and then I got to the end and I just can’t explain how much I loved it! It’s been a few days since I turned that last page and I’m still craving the folklore and the atmosphere!! I wasn’t too happy knowing that there was a sequel at first. I thought that I was just fine with the story the way that it was and the way that it ended. But THEN I heard that the sequel has all of the characters and elements that I was missing in the first book!! So, ya, I totally plan to get the sequel soon!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

Ok, I’m not actually reading both at the same time but I should finish Tower of Dawn sometime in the next couple days and as soon as I finish it I will be picking up Gunslinger Girl. Now if you remembered, Tower of Dawn showed up on my “currently reading” list for the longest time! I tried to start it the week that it was released and it was a struggle. I couldn’t get a grasp on the characters as there were just SOOOO many new ones, I didn’t like the new setting, and a few other things. I made it to 92 pages and just stopped. But when I picked it up again this week I immediately fell into the story and I’m LOVING IT! I’m just past the 50% mark and have so many theories of how this will go. I can’t wait to see if i’m right!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY

This weeks topic was the Top 5 (10) new to me authors in 2017. Not only was this a fun one to do, but it was also a very popular and busy topic! And by that I mean there were 23 participants that I added to the list!!! If you participated and I didn’t add you, it means that I didn’t get a ping back notification and didn’t see if. If I missed you, please let me know and we can work together to make sure that I see it! There is only ONE topic left in 2017!!! I can’t believe it! December 19th will be the TOP 5 BOOKS I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS – I can’t wait to see what’s on your wish lists!

ANTICIPATED RELEASES

With 2018 getting so close, I thought it would be a good idea to check out the new releases for the first 2 months of the year. There were so many and I was so excited I had to post about them! So if you’ve got gift cards burning a hole in your wallet, these Releases in January/February 2018 might be something you can preorder!

IF YOU LIKE THIS THEN….. #8 – RECOMENDATION

This is one of my favourite features. I love being able to take books that are pretty popular and being able to pair them with something that is similar but not so well known. This week was my first historical fiction recommendation for the “If you like this” feature and they’re 2 of my favourites!! Here they are!

PLANNED HIATUS

I need a break! I’m not in a blogging slump or anything, but it’s my favourite time of the year and I want to be able to focus 100% on my family and kids. The holidays are always busy, but it’s taking the time to sit down with my kids and just play all day and trash my house that I always look forward to. My last post will probably be Friday December 22 and I will return again on January 1st!

OH! I almost forgot!!!

So something amazing happened. While I was at a Christmas party over the weekend I got an Instagram notification. Instagram is something that I’m not really into but I’m trying to slowly step up my game. Well, this notification was a tag from Romina Russell…… the author of the Zodiac series which I am currently OBSESSED with!! She actually used my Instagram pic in her promo for a book sale! Safe to say, I almost fell over with excitement! Mostly because she’s SUCH AN AMAZING AUTHOR! Here’s the screen shot:

So that was my week! Im still in shock that so much happened this week, both on the blog and in my personal life. I’m ALMOST done and ready for christmas…… but not yet….. How about you?

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. Awe thanks ☺️ I hadn’t heard of it until last month but it sounds so interesting! I flipped through the first chapter and saw a lot of swearing. Might not be good for some but it makes me even more intrigued! 😂

Gahhh! It makes my heart so happy to see you loved The Bear and the Nightingale! the sequel, The Girl in the Tower takes the story to another level, is fast paced, and even more lush in world building. I still haven’t read The Tower of Dawn but hoping for early 2018. That is seriously AMAZING that you’ve been able to blog & read steadily this time of year, I’m failing at the moment LOL! I think a small break during the holiday week sounds so lovely & I may just be doing the same cause my tiny humans will need me to build & supply batteries for all sorts of new toys and gadgets lol. Happy holidays to you and your family Shanah! ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. Lol oh my goodness – THE BATTERIES!!! I stocked up this year so I didn’t run into the fiasco that happened last year – very angry children with new toys and no batteries! It wasn’t good 😂
I absolutely can’t wait to get to The Girl in the Tower. I’ve heard it’s better than the first book which makes me so excited!!
      Enjoy your holidays!! 🎄

  8. Oh wow congrats on the instagram repost! I love seeing authors and book reviewers back each other up like that. It must be an amazing feeling, knowing that the photo you did was because you enjoyed it, but at the same time you can actually see it helping authors.
