My star rating: 4 stars
Rho, the courageous visionary from House Cancer, lost nearly everything when she exposed and fought against the Marad, a mysterious terrorist group bent on destroying balance in the Zodiac Galaxy. Now the Marad has disappeared without a trace, and an uneasy peace has been declared.
But Rho is suspicious. She believes the Master is still out there in some other form. And looming over all are the eerie visions of her mother, who died many years ago but is now appearing to Rho in the stars.
When news of a stylish new political party supported by her best friend, Nishi, sends Rho on another journey across the Galaxy, she uses it as an opportunity to hunt the hidden master and seek out information about her mother. And what she uncovers sheds light on the truth–but casts darkness upon the entire Zodiac world. Find it on Goodreads
As this is book 3 to the series, I need to remind you that if you haven’t read the first 2, everything said will spoil those! So go read them! Then come back 🙂
Out of all the books so far, this one was probably the slowest, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. It was one of those books where not a lot happened but EVERYTHING happened all at the same time. This is a 4 book series so I felt as though this one is were the dots were starting to all connect, and the plot was being set up for the finale. So far, this book had the least amount of action but it’s the book that played the most mind games.
As I just said, this is where the dots are being connected and things are coming together. In the beginning, we encountered the main threat Ophiuchus. He didn’t have the typical physical form, but was capable of taking down entire houses. Then we encounter the Risers who were being lead by “the master”. We knew that the two were related somehow, but due to the nature of the plot, we weren’t sure who to trust and what was real. This book brought together all of those elements and let us know just how deep and complex these threats are. As small bits of information were revealed I found my mouth hanging open as every little thing finally started to make sense.
The suspense of this story is also very well written. It totally played mind games with me! I was absolutely convinced that I knew who was behind certain things, only to be proved wrong time and time again. I had so many theories about everything! My mind wouldn’t stop spinning as I turned each page – it was so well done it was exhausting actually! But in a good way.
This series has so many amazing themes to it – unity, trust, acceptance, grief, knowing when to let go, and so much more. And these things aren’t only seen in a small group, it’s SO much larger than that! Each zodiac sign is a part of a larger world and each comes together to create this complex gigantic picture.
The pace of this book (and the series as a whole) is fantastic! Things start to slow down and then you find your heartbeat racing all over again!
I wish I could say more about this book but each thing revealed may lessen the surprise for you. I have the last book on my wish list and hope that I get it for Christmas so I can see how this ends!
Until next time, happy reading!
