Top 5 Quotes

Here’s something you may not know about me – I love book quotes!! Love love love them. I could honestly sit there for hours and read quotes from books. It gives me so much insight to what the book contains as in the characters, the climate, the emotion, and so much more. I also love seeing which quotes people choose. It lets me know what they find beautiful, touching, emotional or funny. Quotes hold a lot of power.

But something you may also not know about me is that I rarely ever write them down! I get so deep into a story and forget to write down the things that make me take a step back. I’ll stop and think something is beautiful but then I keep on reading letting it get lost. I remember finishing Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor and being so blown away by the beauty of her writing only to find out that I only wrote down a single quote from the book! I can’t wait to see what others come up with so that maybe I can add them to my collection.

Also (sorry for the long intro to this) I will be splitting this up into 2 categories. First is the list I found striking and beautiful. Then. a funny list that shows my sense of humour. So you’re technically getting a top 10! This list is just from the books I’ve read this year 🙂

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming Topics in October – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

SECTION ONE – THE STRIKING AND BEAUTIFUL

INVICTUS – RYAN GRAUDIN

“Risk nothing and you’ll stay where you are.”

THE SANDCASTLE EMPIRE – KAYLA OLSON

I think about the lines that divide us, how we could draw them endlessly, forever, until everyone ends up alone inside their own jagged piece.

HOLD BACK THE STARS – KATIE KHAN

“It’s your right to have a partner, and a family, and to be loved in the present.” Gwen gets up and kisses her head, then walks from the room. “Don’t make yourself a prisoner of the past.”

STRANGE THE DREAMER – LAINI TAYLOR

All his life, time had been passing in the only way he knew time to pass; unrushed and uncrushable, as sands running through an hourglass grain by grain. And if the hourglass had been real, the in the bottom and neck – the past and the present – the sands of Lazlo’s life would be as grey as his robes, as grey as his eyes, but the top – the future – would hold a brilliant storm of colour: azure and cinnamon, blinding white and yellow gold and the shell pink of syvtagor blood. So he hoped, so he dreamed: that, in the course of time, grain by grain, the grey would give way to the dream and the sands of his life would run bright.

THE SPACE BETWEEN THE STARS – ANNE CORLETT

It was the first time she’d been at the front of the ship for takeoff. She watched the clear blue of the sky fade into off white, and then there was a moment where that white seemed to give way to something that was the opposite of colour, a not quite nothing that made her look away for a moment. Then all of that fell away as they cleared the atmosphere. When you were down there looking up, it was light that you saw. But up here it was all black, with only the pinpricks of stars to lift the darkness. It was as though the sun were an illusion, designed to keep you happy there, trapped against whatever little piece of the universe you’d decided to call home.

SECTION TWO – THE FUNNY AND HILARIOUS

STARFLIGHT – MELISSA LANDERS

“It’s like English is your second language,” she said. “And your native tongue is jack ass”

GODSGRAVE – JAY KRISTOFF

“If the editorii take issue with my arrangements, tell them they can bring them to me personally. But, by the Overseeing and all four of his holy fucking daughters, you’d best warn them to bring an extra pair of balls, because I’ll be ripping off the first and wearing them for earrings.” She indicated her gown with the sweep of her hand. “The red should complement my dress nicely.”

WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI – SANDHYA MENON

Rishi smiled congenially. “Oh, you heard me. If you have to be nasty to prove you’re better than others, then… well. Let’s just say that breeding isn’t everything.”

HIDDEN BODIES – CAROLINE KEPNES

The place is a nice change of pace for me. I get off Facebook and look at pictures of my new home. There is a pool – I could hold Amy under the water – and theres a hot tub – I could boil the bitch – and there is a game room – I can choke her with a pool stick – and it’s within walking distance of anything I could ever want. Including, of course, Amy.

DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT – LAINI TAYLOR

“Okay then,” Karou pushed open the door. “Come in and I’ll tell you,” innocently, as they moved past her, she added, “Oh, and don’t trip over the body on the floor.”

    1. 😂 that’s EXACTLY what I thought!! I loved that book (and book one – You) so much! I kept sympathizing and understanding him – but he’s a serial killer!! I kept shaking my head like “what is wrong with me?” 😂 I highly recommend book one. It’s called You. I bet you’ll be hooked!

  3. When I was a teen I had a notebook full of quotes I had written down. I wish I could find that thing! I am sure it is full of really embarrassing quotes that I thought were so deep!

Awesome quotes. I actually haven’t read any of these books but a lot are on my TBR. Strange the Dreamer just moved higher up!

    1. 😂 that would be SO funny! Looking back to those “deep insights” you thought were great as a teenager! I would end up so embarrassed too!
Strange The Dreamer was the most beautifully written book I’ve read this year! Her writing is just glorious! It’s a bit slow at times but she makes everything just so interesting with her words. I flew through it! I hope you love it when you get around to it!

These quotes are so lovely, I haven’t read any of the books you mention but I absolutely love the quote you’ve chosen from The Sandcastle Empire! I tend to go with more beautiful and striking quotes but you can’t beat something that makes you laugh! 🙂

    1. I usually prefer beautiful quotes as well but I always forget to write them down! I need to get in the habit of using sticky notes or something because there are so many that have stopped my heart!

I’m the same but with ones that made me laugh…I normally underline the beautiful ones so I remember them but with funny ones I get to the end remembering vaguely that I found something funny but not remembering what it was!! 😂😂

Thank you! I don’t know what’s going on with WordPress and the comments lately! I’ve been having so much trouble!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh no! I hope they get it figured out soon. It kept telling me that I had to log on and then when I tried it told me there was an error. WordPress hates me sometimes so that doesn’t help 😂

I fiddled with some of the discussion settings so I’ll be testing it soon. If not then I’ll have to call or send an email. The internet can be extremely inconvenient sometimes!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Yes it is inconvenient! I was fighting with my computer all day trying to get something to work. Luckily WordPress is really good at helping fix the problems 🙂

  6. I had the hardest time coming up with good quotes for this week. It took several days of narrowing them down to five to even have a chance of putting one up for today! I love all of yours and I like how you put them in two different categories.

    1. I plan on repeating this topic again over the next few months. So many people had a hard time narrowing it down so it will give everyone the chance to write about some more they missed 🙂
