August Wrap Up!

The summer is coming to a close and Im not sure how I feel about that. It seems like I wait all year long for the hot temperatures and sunshine that summer brings, but then i’m taken over by my excitement for my favourite season – FALL! The leaves, sweaters, bon fires, the smells – ahhhhh I can’t wait! I also can’t wait for the routine of school to start because my reading took a hit this summer. Especially this month. I did manage to at least finish one book each week so that’s a plus! Here’s a look at the month of August:

Arrow

Starfall

STAR FALL by Melissa Landers <—– (Full review) 4.5 stars
Omg this series was so much fun!! It was exactly the series I needed for a summer read. Great characters, adventure, intrigue, politics, PIRATES, and so much more! I didn’t know what to expect with this series and put it off for so long, to which I now regret. This was just a blast! I can’t wait for more from this author!

nevernight

NEVER NIGHT by Jay Kristoff <—– (Full review) 5 stars
SO FREAKING GOOD!!! I’ve been in a bit of a fantasy slump lately and this definitely broke that! This is a such a brutal and unforgiving story of a girl training to be an assassin for revenge. But the “school” she attends to train isn’t for everyone. Your training may mean your death. I’ve never read a book written by an author that was so unafraid to let his characters suffer!! And suffer they did! The sequel, Godsgrave, comes out in September and I can’t freaking wait!!

Homegoing

HOME GOING by Yaa Gyasi <—– (Full review) 3.5 stars
Such a beautiful story following multiple generations. We learn of their connections, their suffering, and other events that shaped the lives of the generations to follow. She is such a beautiful writer and captures so much emotion in such a small amount of pages. The downfall with this one was that there was just so many characters to follow in two different family trees and it got a little confusing. Also, because her writing was so captivating, I felt that the stories weren’t complete and I just wanted more!!

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by Taylor Jenkins Reid <—– (Full review) 4.5 stars
Well this one was just a pleasant surprise! I initially didn’t want to read this one at all but the reviews of many bloggers convinced me that this was a book not to be missed – and they were right! I ended up loving Evelyn Hugo as a person and was enthralled in her story of her life in Hollywood. I also enjoyed the sub plot of Monique, the interviewer, and their connections. The last 1/4 of this book was packed with action and emotion, and it felt like I was kicked in the chest a few times. If the cover doesn’t grab you (I’m not a fan of this cover at all!), the inside is more than worth it!

You bring the distant near

YOU BRING THE DISTANT NEAR by Mitali Perkins <—–(Full review) 4 stars
My first ARC read in August and it didn’t disappoint! What a beautiful and emotion filled story. Three generations of Indian women as they struggle to balance their Indian and American cultures. I expected this one to be interesting but I ended up enjoying it far more than I thought I would!! This one comes out on September 12th and I highly recommend it!!

Arrow

There is my month at a glance. Not the best reading month but I still kept up with at least one a week and I can be proud of that! Next month is going to be I-N-S-A-N-E! So many books being released and I want to read them all. I’m going to attempt it though I doubt I will be successful because there are just so many. My TBR for September is posting tomorrow so check out my ambitious month!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. These would be a great read for October! Lots of death and darkness. This is the type of book that you’re not really sure if you’ll like it and then after you read it you become obsessed!

    1. I highly recommend Nevernight! Loved it so much. But it’s definitely brutal and NOT a young adult fantasy! Just a warning lol
