Weekly Wrap Up – August 13 – 19

I feel like this was one of the longest weeks of the year. I looked back to the posts at the beginning of this week and it feels like I wrote them a month ago! I was very productive in blogging, reading, work and playing with the kids – I even started back to school shopping! I’m ready for things to calm down now though. Comfy sweaters, bon fires at night, the smell of the leaves, halloween – fall is my favourite time of year! But we aren’t there yet and I’m taking in the sunshine while it lasts! Hope you all had a great week!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

Homegoing

HOMEGOING by Yaa Gyasi (<—– full review) 3.5 stars
This was such a unique and beautiful read. Told in the format of short stories following many generations born from two half sisters, Yaa Gyasi was able to create so much passion, emotion, and interest in such a short amount of time! But due to the short story format I was left wanting more from the beautiful story of their lives. She’s an amazing author that I will most definitely be reading more from!!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

I didn’t plan on reading this one – like ever. Honestly I’m not a fan AT ALL of hollywood dramas. They bore me. But when reviews of this one started coming out and they were all 4-5 stars (not to mention even men were reading this and loving it!) I had to look into it. I picked it up for 40% off and decided to just read the first chapter…… and just kept on reading until I was over 50 pages in! This one hooked me. I need to know more about this woman and her life – not to mention why she chose this girl to finally tell her story!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY

This was the second (and last) part of a two part series about buzzwords. This was the buzzwords that make me NOT want to read a book. I thought this was going to be a little harder than it was, but when the ball got rolling I let my rant and imagination fly! Next week if you want to participate, the topic will be TOP 5 RETELLINGS! I’ve wanted to cover this topic for the longest time and I hope I can find a way to narrow it down to only 5! It’s not going to be easy!

TAGS AND DISCUSSIONS

Apparently this was the week for tags, discussions, and talking about my personal life. I’ve been experiencing a lot of mental exhaustion lately and I think I needed to get some things off my chest. The next week is a hard one for me mentally. I’m preparing a post unlike anything I’ve ever done and it will be very personal. It’s coming up on the year anniversary that I was told I had cancer. I’m cleared now, but looking back at that time and all the heartache and fear I experienced was so overwhelming. Anyway, not getting into all that just yet. This week I asked how you consume a series and it was a very interesting result! There weren’t as many up to date or spurt readers as I thought there would be! I also gave you some insight on me with the getting to know you better tag.

Arrow

So that was my week at a glance. I hope everyone has had a great week and you’ve had the chance to smile!

Until next time, happy reading!

Both of these books sound so good, can’t wait to pick them up. And Top Tuesday should be super fun next week, though I’m not sure I can jump in. Moving back to university is draining ALOT of my time. But I am looking forward to reading about favorite retellings!
