Weekly wrap up – August 6 – 12

The weekend of chaos is ALMOST over! I’m so tired I feel like I need to sleep for 24 hours. When I am awake I sit and stare at things for a while before I realize what I’m doing. And it’s not over yet! This afternoon my parents are coming over and we will be playing in the pool, eating dinner, and having a bon fire. Seriously – sleep for 24 hours sounds amazing!!! I still can’t get back into blog hopping until tomorrow though so I’m not officially back just yet. This week has been very busy but it’s been a week of good things!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

nevernight

NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff <—– (Full review) 5 stars
SOOOOOO good! This is just the type of fantasy I was in the mood for. Bad ass characters, sprinkled with magic, vengeance, brutality and assassins……. just incredible! I’m so glad that there an author that isn’t afraid to make his characters suffer – and suffer they did! All of them! I’m glad that I waited to read this one because now the wait for book 2 isn’t so long 🙂

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

Homegoing

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I bought this one the week it came out with the intent to read it that same week…. things worked well for me seeing as how this one was published in June of 2016. This one is told in the form of short stories, each of which follow a member in the line of a family. It starts with two half sisters, Effia and Esi, both unaware of each others existence until later on in life, and both raised very differently. Effia is married to a white man and lives at the castle. Esi is a slave living in the dungeons underneath the castle. Each chapter follows a new character which is a thread or link of these two women. I’m currently on page 70 and it’s a very raw story. I’ve had to take my time a bit due to how busy I’ve been but also because I’m trying to connect the dots within the characters, their families and their family tree. Hopefully I can finish this one this week.

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENTS!

As I announced in Saturday’s life update post, I got the confirmation that one of my reviews will be published in an online magazine on September 1st! I can’t wait to see it! I never would have thought something like this would have happened when I started this blog. I was also accepted into the blogger/media program for Raincoast Books Canada! They have so many wonderful and amazing publishing houses under their umbrella and I can’t wait to work with them! I originally started this blog just to talk about books and post reviews but what I’ve been able to accomplish has definitely increased my confidence in myself!

TOP 5 TUESDAY

As part 1 of a 2 part series, this weeks topic was Top 5 buzzwords that make me WANT to read a book. Almost everyone that participated managed to come up with something that I completely forgot to think about myself! This was the perfect example of why I love it when people participate in the same meme. Yes, some of the answers are the same, but there are always some that slap you in the face screaming “why didn’t I think of that?!” Thanks so all that participated! Next week’s topic is the buzzwords that make you NOT want to read a book!

Arrow

So tired and staring into space that this post took me nearly two hours to finish. I hope that I can get some proper rest tonight so that I can get back into my blogging routine tomorrow. We shall see. I hope you all had an amazing week! And I hope that I can get back to reading the posts on some of the amazing blogs I follow!

Until next time, happy reading!
