June Wrap Up

There June went – done and gone! That went WAY too fast. It’s the last month the kids are in school so my sanity went along with it. My husband and I run two businesses from our house so we are home with the kids working every day and it is STRESSFUL! Knowing that I need to work and be a mother at the same time is a constant struggle. But we make it work! July is a super busy month. My daughter turns 12, we have events planned, and so much more. I’m not hopeful that I’ll get much reading done but it is what it is! I managed to read 7 books this month, most of which were sadly 3 star reviews. That’s an ok number but I was hoping for more. Here’s what I read this month:

Arrow

The obsession

THE OBSESSION by Nora Roberts <—– (Full review) 3.75 stars
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read a Nora Roberts book and it was really nice to step back into her characters! This is a prime example of how well this woman can develop her characters. The story was good but missed a few things I was hoping for.

The Unlikelies

THE UNLIKELIES by Carrie Firestone <—– (Full review) 3.5 stars
This was a really good summer time read! An unlikely group of friends who are known for being hero’s comes together to try and help others. I loved the friendship aspect of the whole thing. I also loved that this book covered some pretty hard topics. But I felt that I was a little too old to relate to this one the way that I wanted to.

Hold back the stars

HOLD BACK THE STARS by Katie Khan <—– (Full review) 3.5 stars
This book was such a surprise! The plot was incredibly unique and the authors ability to fluidly move back and forth between the past and the present was just outstanding! Even though I felt this one wasn’t as developed as well as it could have been, it’s a story that made me think long after I read it. And that ending!!!

Claiming Addison

CLAIMING ADDISON by Zoey Derrick <—– (Full review) 4 stars
This one was a bit of a surprise! I’m not a big fan of this genre. I find that erotic romance novels are heavy on the relationships and weak on the story. This one was interesting on both parts! Something new to reset my reading brain and I really enjoyed it!

The space between the stars

THE SPACE BETWEEN THE STARS by Anne Corlett <—– (Full review) 4 stars
Such a great story of survival in the face of impossible odds and the human connection. Each and every person was so different and so were their thoughts of what was the right thing to do. This one was very character driven and one that you just need to feel. I think that each person will get something different out of this one!

Feel me fall

FEEL ME FALL by James Morris <—– (Full review) 4 stars
Oooohhh this one gave me the chills! I went into it expecting to get a survival story of a group of teens after their plane crashed in the Amazon. Yes, I got that, but I also got thrown on an unexpected adventure of twists, turns, and thrills! Very unexpected but so amazing! Still thinking of all the plot twists! They blew my mind!

Sandcastle empire

THE SANDCASTLE EMPIRE by Kayla Olson <—– (Full review) 3 stars
I had anticipated this one for so long and I was disappointed with the depth of this story. I wanted more details and information! I missed all the details of why things were happening and how. But the setting of the sanctuary island were so well done and absolutely insane! There’s talk of this becoming a movie and I think it will do very well on screen! I didn’t hate it, it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Arrow

So that’s the books I read in June! I hope you had a fantastic reading month! What was your favourite read this month?

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. Oh I loved My Heart and Other Black Holes!! I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. I got an ARC of her latest book that will be released in November and can’t wait to get to it! I just love her writing! 🙂

Yes I love her writing as well!!! I am looking forward to reading her new book as well! Will you be doing a review? Also, silly question but how do you get ARCs?

        1. Yes I’ll be doing a review. The publisher requested that I wait until closer to the release date so it will be a while.
Not a silly question! I email publishers and request to be added to their media and review team. It can be stressful and confusing when working with multiple publishing houses, and you also don’t get approved for every book you request, but it’s been an honour to work with them! Just search out a contact through the publisher and send them an emai. Tell them you are a blogger and are requesting to review books for them. Be sure to include all links to your pages and social media with the amount of followers on each because they will check! Each country and publisher has different things they require.

    1. Feel Me Fall isn’t typically a genre that I read (YA Thriller that is) and I was really surprised how much I loved it! I hope you enjoy. Can’t wait to see how you liked it 🙂

Great month Shanah! My favorite in June has been The Impossible Vastness of US by Samantha Young and Lord of the Shadows by Cassandra Clare 😉

    1. I need to find a spoiler filled review of Lord of Shadows lol. Usually it’s the other way around. I didn’t really enjoy last midnight so I’m not continuing with the series but I’m curious how things happened

Hi!! Wow. I’m always amazed when I see how many books bloggers read. I’ve recently started my blog and I feel like I’m never going to go through that many books in a month. I’m lucky if I am able to do 2 or 3. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not in competition with anyone and I think it’s awesome but I would love to know how you accomplish this. We’re going into the third week in July and I’ve read 2 books and will be starting my 3rd today. I can’t figure out how to make audio books work for me since I can’t seem to pay attention to two things at the same time and if I listen during my commute to work I tend to drift off and fall asleep lol. It’s not that the book is boring but the voice of the reader lulls me to sleep……ugh!!! Anyway, great job on the amazing reading in June can’t wait to see the wrap up in July.

    1. It took me the longest time to get used to audiobooks! You can’t be too busy when you’re trying to listen or else the distractions become too much. I haven’t listened to one in forever! My life is far too busy.
As far as reading a lot – I have a few tips that I plan on putting together in a post very soon! It’s so frustrating when everyone around you is reading a ton and you aren’t! I have quite a few friends who had read over 100 and 200 books so far this year!!! I couldn’t reach that in 12 months let alone 6! It wasn’t until I started making books an absolute priority that things changed. About 3 (or 4?) years ago I would be lucky if I read 10 books in a whole year! I had to work myself up to 1-2 books a week. So hopefully you will get there! With practice and figuring out when reading works for you 🙂
