The Birthday Book tag!

As the name suggests – tomorrow is my birthday! (I would have posted this tomorrow but top 5 Tuesday is already scheduled.) I’m one year older and it isn’t getting easier as those numbers keep climbing. But I’m always younger than my husband, so there’s that! I saw this book tag over on the app Books Amino and it was created by the amazing Antonia *Always Books*. I’ve been following her for quite a long time and always enjoy her thoughts, posts, reviews and conversations. I loved her tag so much I immediately started writing down the prompts for this specific day. So here we go!

Arrow

1 – BIRTHDAY CAKE – A book with a plot that seems cliche but you adore it anyway!

everything-everything

It took me the longest time to read this book. When it came out that cover made me drool! I have to admit that this is one of my favourite covers ever printed. The lettering (one being colour and the other being void of colour), the doodled graphics full of vibrant colour – it’s gorgeous! But the story didn’t sound original at all. Sick girl stuck in the house when all of a sudden a boy moves in next door (and of course he looks perfect) but he’s completely unattainable. I looked at this cover for over a year and didn’t read it because it sounded so cliche. But I’m glad I finally gave in and read it!

2 – PARTY GUESTS – Your most anticipated book release this year!

Flame in the mist

NEED THIS NOW!! Strangely enough this one is being released on my actual birthday – it’s the book worlds gift to me!! I didn’t expect to love her other series (The Wrath and the Dawn) as much as I did, but Renee Ahdieh’s writing captured my attention and didn’t let go. And this one sounds so interesting!

3 – BIRTHDAY PRESENTS –  A book that surprised you with how much you loved it.

lunar-spines

The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. I refused to read this series due to the fact that the first book, Cinder, had a red high heel on the cover. I am SO not a girly girl and assumed that this book would be girly due to the shoe. But once I finally gave in to the peer pressure and gave it a try I loved it! Not only that but the series seemed to get better and better with every book!!

4 – THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG – A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got!

The hate you give

Hmmmmmmm – do I even need to explain this…….. no. Read it if you haven’t yet – just read it!!

5 – HAPPY MUSIC – A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes.

strange-the-dreamer

The writing style of Laini Taylor is something so unique and incredible. This was my first book written by her and I didn’t know what to expect. I was honestly thrown off by how beautiful her writing is! So many times throughout this book I had to stop and process what I had just read. Then I would go back and read the line again just to make sure I read it properly. No matter how many times I read the line it got more and more beautiful. Here’s an example:

All his life, time had been passing in the only way he knew time to pass; unrushed and unrushable, as sands running through an hourglass grain by grain. And if the hourglass had been real, then in the bottom and neck – the past and the present – the sands of Lazlo’s life would be as grey as his robes, as grey as his eyes, but the top – the future – would hold a brilliant storm of colour; azure and cinnamon, blinding white and yellow gold and the shell pink of svytagor blood. So he hoped, so he dreamed; that, in the course of time, grain by grain, the grey would give way to the dream and the sands of his life would run bright.

6 – GETTING OLDER – A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader.

A tree grows in brooklyn

I read this book about 10 years ago and fell in love with it. It was really emotional and hard hitting. But now that I’m older and have more life experiences that relate to this book, I think that my perceptions of it will have changed. When I first read it I related to one side but now I think I’ll relate more to the mother. I may have to reread it to see how I feel about it!

7 – SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES – A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life.

ACOMAF

I read this one last summer and of course it made me happy! It threw me into an unexpected book slump because I became so obsessed with the world and the characters. Summer is a VERY busy time for me. Kids are home from school, work is busy, and there is non stop going and obligations. This gave me a bit of relief from all of that at a time when I really needed it!

Arrow

Happy birthday to me! I hope that I can come to you in a post soon enough with some books (please let the birthday fairy bring me books!)

Until next time, happy reading!

  14. Some people say it’s bad luck to wish someone happy birthday before the actual day but I don’t believe it so… Happy early birthday! 😀 ❤
I had the same reaction when I saw Cinder's cover! That's probably what my brain registered as well and even after reading the synopsis, it didn't make a difference at all hahaha
I have Strange the Dreamer and Flame in the Mist in my TBR and I'm hoping they're awesome!
Great tag and great choices! I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow ^^

  16. Happy birthday – hope you have a great day. Am really excited for The Flame in the Mist even though I have never read The Wrath and the Dawn, and can totally relate to the book slump from A Court of Mist and Fury – that is putting me off reading the next one 🙂

  17. Happy birthday!! 😍 I totally agree with you on ACOMAF. I think I DNF’d a couple of books after reading it. And I actually never expected The Lunar Chronicles to become one of my favorite series when I first started Cinder!

I have heard nothing but amazing things about Laini Taylor’s writing, but I have yet to read something by her. I think I will pick up The Daughter of Smoke and Bone first, as that trilogy is already completed and I don’t have to wait for more books to be released. 🙂
