Get to know me!

I love to talk about books, but when it comes to talking about me – no. Just no. As i’m sure you all understand I’m a total introvert. I love to hide in my book cave and only converse with the fictional characters I read about. Ok and I guess my family too. But when I saw the Get To Know Me Tag Jackie posted on her wonderful blog Too Much of a Book Nerd , I realized how wonderful it is so know the person behind the blog! I’ve talked with so many bloggers over the last few months and it helped me understand her more and make me feel more connected to her blog and its content. So here it goes, as uncomfortable as it makes me, I will tell you a bit about myself!

VITAL STATS

NAME: Shanah

NICKNAMES: Mom, Midget (i’m 5 foot tall and my husband is 6’4″ – we look weird), Bionic Brawlberry (my roller derby name and where my blog name came from!)

BIRTHDAY: May 16th…. in just a few days!

STAR SIGN: Taurus – go on, ask me if I’m stubborn! LOL

OCCUPATION: Business owner. Together me and my husband own a bait and tackle shop. Polar opposite of my book love! We also own a soft plastic bait manufacturing company. I know it sounds like a big deal but we are still starting out and really small. It’s just me and him running the show.

LIVING IN: I live in SW Ontario Canada. I love where I live! I can’t stand big cities and I live I’m in a small town surrounded by the Great Lakes. It’s so beautiful! But I could do without the snow! I also live within minutes of the US boarder so it takes little to no time and I can travel to another country 🙂

APPEARANCE

HAIR COLOUR: Medium brown

HAIR LENGTH: A few inches past my shoulders – I will never cut my hair short again!

EYE COLOUR: Green but they sometimes change to greenish blue or greenish brown

BEST FEATURE: My hands? I don’t know! I do like my hands a lot. But I would say humour if I wasn’t going with a physical feature.

BRACES: No, but I should have had them because I HATE my teeth! I refused when I was younger because I was bullied enough and I didn’t want to add more fuel to the fire.

PIERCINGS: Only in my ears now. But I’ve had my nose, tongue, eye brow and belly button done at some point – not all at the same time though lol

TATTOOS: Many lol. I stopped counting when I got to 10. They are mostly hidden and mostly small. My largest is on my right leg. It goes from my toes almost to my knee and is water themed with a koi fish, waves, bubbles, a hibiscus flower, and it has my kids signatures that they wrote themselves on their 5th birthday

RIGHT OR LEFT: Right!

FIRSTS

REAL HOLIDAY: My first real holiday outside of Canada was a cruise for college. I went to school for travel and tourism (which I ended up doing nothing with because 9/11 happened in my first week of school and the travel industry basically collapsed) But we flew to Jamaica and visited the Dominican Republic, the British Virgin Islands, St Maarten, a private island on the Dominican, then back to Jamaica. It was glorious! I haven’t seen the ocean since though 😦

BEST FRIEND: My first best friend was Melissa. We did everything together and were always with each other. We still talk but (introvert) we are both so busy with our families and we live in different towns so we don’t see each other much anymore.

AWARD: I won the grade 8 art award in school.

SPORT: Hmmmm there were other sports I tried but the first one I really liked and stuck with was baseball. I still love playing it!

CONCERT: Backstreet Boys!! I was obsessed back then and still know every word lol

Arrow

FAVOURITES

TV SHOWS: So I’m not all that into tv, but Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, 2 Broke Girls, Supergirl, and Gilmore Girls are a few I do love!

COLOUR: Green and blue, except for pastels

SONGS: I haven’t had the time to listen to music lately. But basically anything by Hozier, Lorde, Birdy

RESTAURANT: There’s a tiny restaurant in Toronto called Barque. They’re a BBQ smoke restaurant and it’s sooooo good! We go there every time we are in Toronto, which isn’t often enough to get this food!!

SHOPS: Any book store (obviously) but Chapters Indigo to be specific. H&M and Maurices for clothes. David’s Tea for tea

BOOKS: This feels impossible to answer but I’ll list a few – The Book Theif, Harry Potter, The Night Circus, Strange The Dreamer, anything Sarah J Maas, The Illuminae series, Ready Player One

SHOES: Flip flops, flats or bare feet. I broke my ankle badly playing roller derby (hence the name “Bionic” because of the plate and screws holding my ankle in place) so I can only wear flat shoes now 😦 )

BOOK GENRES: Fantasy, science fiction and historical fiction!

Arrow

CURRENTLY

FEELING: Tired – up too late reading! What else is new?

SINGLE OR TAKEN: Taken. This year will mark our 9th wedding anniversary and our 19th dating anniversary. We got together just after my 16th birthday. Not too many people can say they married their high school sweetheart 🙂

EATING: Nothing – coffee…… just coffee lol

THINKING ABOUT: If I’m going to enjoy the book I started last night. I’ve been obsessed with the movie Passengers and anything science fiction so I started Across the Universe by Beth Revis. It didn’t start out how I thought it would and I’m having a hard time connecting with the plot, writing and characters. I’m only about 50 pages in so it’s still a little too early to tell.

WATCHING: Passengers! I’ve watched that movie every day for over a month now…….

WEARING: Warm leggings and a long sleeve black shirt. It’s been cold and rainy here and we’re actually under a rainfall warning. The river is getting pretty high so I hope there isn’t any flooding by the time the rain is done on Sunday!

Arrow

DO YOU…..

HAVE KIDS: I have two kids actually. My daughter will be turning 12 this year and my son just turned 7 last week. They are my absolute everything!

WANT TO TRAVEL: YES!!! There just isn’t enough money to travel right now. I would love to see Ireland (where a lot of my family comes from), Scotland, England, India, Australia, Fiji, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Isreal, China, the list could go on and on and on!!! Not to mention I want to go to a book convention SOOOO badly! They’re not usually held around here so it will require quite a bit of travel to get to one.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF: I never used to. I used to compare and belittle myself because I wasn’t like other people. But then one day it clicked and I realized that I’m NOT like other people. I am who I am, I like what I like, and i’m good at my own special things. I quite like myself now 🙂

Arrow

So there I am! I’m not going to tag anyone but if you feel like doing this then go ahead 🙂 I would love to get to know some of you better!! And if you’ve done a get to know my tag before send me a link!

Until next time, happy reading!

I totally got the introversion, I tend to avoid isles while in browsing in the market if there are already people in it and I don’t actually need something in that aisle. 😊 But it was super nice to read more about you. It definitely makes a blog more relatable.

    1. You saying that makes me feel so much better!! I avoid aisles if they’re busy as well. Especially if there is a person near the end. I’ll just keep walking like I meant to do it and then loop back around! It’s awful!! Lol

My mom thinks I’m crazy, but she’s social she doesn’t get it. She’ll tell her life story, my life story and all about my dog to a random stranger in line,

        1. Lol I wish I was that social. If I’m in a setting I’m comfortable with I can talk your ear off. Strangers are a no lol

  13. Aw YAY, I’m happy to see that you decided to this tag! 🙂 🙂
And you’re so right, I never noticed how much more connected to feel to someone when you find out so much about them! 😀
I love Hozier, Lorde and Birdy woooo ❤ And I haven't seen Passengers yet because I love Chris Pratt but I dislike JLaw. Sooo we'll see if I ever get around to watching it!
And I feel the same about going to a book convention! They're usually held in the US and I can't just randomly fly over there and attend it whenever I feel like it 😛
And it's so cool that you met Stephanie Garber *heart eyes*

    1. Chris Pratt was adorable in this movie! Jennifer Lawrence was good as well but he was the main focus. I find that people either love or hate this movie 😂
A trip to the US for book conventions would be costly for sure! Not to mention the luggage cost to get all those books back home!!
Stephanie Garber was so sweet! Elly Blake was also there. She wrote FrostBlood. Turns out she lives 45 minutes from my house which is really cool!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I’ll have to check it out some time! 🙂
I’d have to go to the US with an empty suitcase and come back here with a case full of books hahaha!
Oh really? That’s so cool 😀

    1. Canada really is a beautiful place. So diverse in its landscapes! I wish it was a little smaller though lol. I still haven’t seen the entire country!

      1. Marie says:

Ahah I get it, it’s gigantic – I want to visit the whole country just as well but I don’t know where to start ahah and I feel like I’m going to need so many months to do it all 😀

        Liked by 1 person

        1. You probably would need months to go from one side of Canada to the other! My parents and my boyfriend (now husband) took a trailer from Ontario to Prince Edward Island for two weeks. We only got to see a few attractions in each province. It was nowhere near long enough. Ontario is a good place to start but it would depend on what you’re interested it! I’ve never seen the mountains in Canada. I hope to one day!!

Well…If I ever do such a trip, I’ll make sure to have loads of time to explore the country as much as I can for sure. It seems like there is SO much to see, both in terms of landscapes and cities and I want to see it all ahah 😀
